Didn't get enough of the bone temple in *28 Years Later*? Boy, do we have good news for you.

That spire of skulls will likely play heavily into the horror hit's sequel, *The Bone Temple*, directed by Nia DaCosta (*Hedda*) and written by *28 Years Later *scribe Alex Garland (*Civil War*). It was shot back-to-back with its predecessor and is the second film in a planned trilogy.

Ralph Fiennes, who returns as Dr. Ian Kelson, previously spoke with ** about how this next installment highlights the "human violence" that persists even as the U.K. fights for survival against the Rage Virus.

Here's everything we know about *28 Years Later: The Bone Temple*, including its release date, cast, and plot.

What is *28 Years Later: The Bone Temple *about?

Sony Pictures Releasing

*28 Years Later *ends with young Spike (Alfie Williams) leaving for the mainland alone. After fleeing from the infected, he runs into Jimmy (Jack O'Connell), a strange figure wearing a tracksuit, gold chains, and an upside-down gold cross. Jimmy isn't alone, either — he's backed by a similarly-dressed crew who prove themselves adept at slicing and dicing infected. Jimmy invites Spike to join them.

Jimmy, as you might imagine, will play a major role in *The Bone Temple*. In a chat with *Rolling Stone*, *28 Years Later* director Danny Boyle described the sequel as "essentially a debate about the nature of evil between [Kelson] and the head Jimmy."

The official synopsis reads: "Dr. Kelson finds himself in a shocking new relationship — with consequences that could change the world as they know it — and Spike's encounter with Jimmy Crystal becomes a nightmare he can't escape, In the world of *The Bone Temple*, the infected are no longer the greatest threat to survival — the inhumanity of the survivors can be stranger and more terrifying."**

'28 Years Later' ending explained: Who is Jimmy and why is he dressed like that?

Dr. Kelson (Ralph Fiennes) in Columbia Pictures' 28 YEARS LATER

Speaking with EW, Fiennes, who plays Dr. Kelson, noted the scene in which an infected gives birth in *28 Years Later* as foundational to what's to come. "I can say that the themes that we touched on in the scene on the train, the moment of labor, the humanity — it is a critical moment in the life of a mother and child," he said.

He continued, "The ultimate human moment is an infected woman who is giving birth to a baby who is not infected. The theme of innate humanity — is it still alive in the soul, in the heart, in the mind of an infected person? Are they completely corrupted? Are they only rabid? Or is there the possibility of something? Something human, it's still there."

And Fiennes also noted that the sequel will address "human violence" in a significant way. "We carry in us the potential for terrible destruction and pain," he said. "That theme is picked up very strongly in the next film."

Is there a trailer for 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple?

The first trailer for *The Bone Temple* highlights Dr. Kelson's titular structure, as well as his curiosity about the monstrous alpha, Samson (Chi Lewis-Parry).

Dr. Kelson isn't just spending time with Samson, though. The trailer sees Jimmy and his gang, a.k.a. "the Jimmies," visiting the Bone Temple. Could Spike be the one who leads them there? He's seen wearing a blonde wig in the trailer, hinting he's now part of the ruthless faction.

A follow-up trailer released in December 2025 offers a deeper look at Jimmy's meeting with Dr. Kelson, in which the young buck asks Fiennes' weary doctor if he's "Old Nick," a nickname for Satan.

"Old Nick released his demons unto the world of man," says Jimmy. "And the world of man fell before the demons."**

Elsewhere in the clip, we see Spike being recruited as a Jimmy, flashbacks to the early days of the Rage Virus, and Dr. Kelson declaring that he believes the infection can be treated.**

Who's in the *28 Years Later: The Bone Temple *cast?

Jack O'Connell in 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple

Sony Pictures Releasing

Many players from *28 Years Later *will be reprising their roles in* The Bone Temple*, including Fiennes as Dr. Ian Kelson, Williams as Spike, O'Connell as Jimmy, and Lewis-Parry as Samson.

Also returning is Erin Kellyman (*The Falcon and the Winter Soldier*). She's seen multiple times in the trailer, wearing a blonde wig and stirring up violence with the Jimmies.

Is Cillian Murphy in 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple?

Cillian Murphy as Jim in '28 Days Later'

Cillian Murphy as Jim in '28 Days Later'.

Peter Mountain/Fox Searchlight

Yes, Cillian Murphy will return for *The Bone Temple*. Though he didn't appear in *28 Years Later*, the Oscar-winning actor will reprise his role as Jim, a bike courier who survived the original outbreak in* 28 Days Later*.

Murphy told *The Observer* that his role in *The Bone Temple* is brief and comes toward the end, but it sets the stage for him to play a key part in a potential third and final movie. "Everyone's got to go and see the second one," he said. "I'm sure they will – it's really, really good."**

X-Men, assemble!

A third trailer for "Avengers: Doomsday" has debuted in theaters, this one focusing on the cast of the original "X-Men" movies from the 2000s. The trailer is now playing in front of screenings of "Avatar: Fire and Ash," but it hasn't been released online.

The footage opens with shots showing the inside of Charles Xavier's (Patrick Stewart) School for Gifted Youngsters, as Magneto (Ian McKellen) says in a voiceover, "Death comes for us all. It's all I know for sure. The question isn't, 'Are you prepared to die?' The question is, 'Who would you be when you close your eyes?'"

Charles Xavier's wheelchair is shown in a close-up, followed by a shot of a chess board with a piece rising into the air. We then see Charles Xavier and Magneto warmly embracing each other.

This is followed by a dramatic scene of Scott Summers (James Marsden), a.k.a. Cyclops, looking distraught as fiery destruction is seen behind him. Summers, who is wearing a yellow and blue costume, shoots a red beam out of his eyes while on his knees, presumably after some sort of tragic loss. Behind him we can see what appears to be a giant Sentinel robot.

The logo for Marvel's "Avengers: Doomsday," which hits theaters in December 2026.

"The X-Men will return in 'Avengers: Doomsday,'" on-screen text reads, followed by a countdown to the December 2026 release of the film.

Second 'Avengers: Doomsday' trailer debuts, reveals character return

Stewart most recently played Charles Xavier, the leader of the X-Men, in 2022's "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness," but McKellen hasn't reprised his character of Magneto since 2014's "X-Men: Days of Future Past." Marsden, meanwhile, last had a proper role as Cyclops in 2006's "X-Men: The Last Stand," though he made a brief cameo in "Days of Future Past."

Original "X-Men" trilogy stars Kelsey Grammer, Alan Cumming and Rebecca Romijn were previously confirmed to also be starring in "Avengers: Doomsday," and Channing Tatum will return as Gambit, an X-Men character he originated in "Deadpool & Wolverine."

"Avengers: Doomsday" has released three separate trailers in as many weeks, each one in theaters in front of showings of "Avatar: Fire and Ash." So far, a new trailer has been swapped in every weekend to replace the previous one, though they have all followed a similar format.

James Marsden as Cyclops in 'X-Men.'

The first trailer centered on Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, providing the first official confirmation that Evans will return for the movie. The trailer showed Steve, the former Captain America, arriving to the home he shares with Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) and holding a baby. It was later released online.

'Avengers: Doomsday' trailer reveals beloved hero's surprise return

The second trailer, which premiered in theaters the following week, focused on Chris Hemsworth as Thor, who was seen walking through the woods and saying a prayer that he will be able to return to his daughter. This was the first time it was revealed that Thor's daughter, introduced in "Thor: Love and Thunder," will be in the movie. This trailer has also since been released online.

All three trailers to date have ended the same way: with a large, green "Avengers" logo and a countdown to the film's release date.

"Avengers: Doomsday" will star a stacked cast that includes most of the major actors from recent Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, as well as a returning Robert Downey Jr., who is playing the main villain, Doctor Doom. The weekly trailer release is the latest unconventional marketing strategy that Marvel has utilized for the film. In March, the studio made a splash on social media with a live stream that slowly unveiled the cast list, one name at a time, over the course of roughly five-and-a-half hours.

For Marvel, much is riding on "Avengers: Doomsday" after several of the studio's films underwhelmed at the box office over the past few years, raising questions about whether audiences are moving on from a franchise that once dominated Hollywood. In 2025, DC's "Superman" outperformed all three of Marvel's movies: "Captain America: Brave New World," "Thunderbolts" and "The Fantastic Four: First Steps."

No official plot synopsis for "Avengers: Doomsday" has been released, though a credits scene in "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" suggested Doctor Doom kidnapping Franklin, son of Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal) and Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby), will play a role in the story.

'Avengers: Doomsday' cast list

The confirmed cast of "Avengers: Doomsday" consists of:

Chris Evans

Chris Hemsworth

Vanessa Kirby

Anthony Mackie

Sebastian Stan

Letitia Wright

Paul Rudd

Wyatt Russell

Tenoch Huerta Mejía

Ebon Moss-Bachrach

Simu Liu

Florence Pugh

Kelsey Grammer

Lewis Pullman

Danny Ramirez

Joseph Quinn

Winston Duke

Hannah John-Kamen

Tom Hiddleston

A group of furious fans has rushed to defend 2000s heartthrob Tom Welling after one X user went viral for comments describing his looks at age 48 as "below average."

The social media troll contrasted a recent photo of Welling with one taken when he was in his early twenties.

Welling, who made headlines last January for driving under the influence, famously played Clark Kent in the superhero series Smallville for a decade, from 2001 to 2011.

He is also known for appearing in Lucifer as Lt. Marcus Pierce/Cain and in Cheaper by the Dozen, where he played Charlie Baker, the eldest son of Steve Martin's character.

The anonymous post by The 4Chan Archives described a young Welling as "one of the best-looking actors ever" with a "model face," claiming he had become "below average" two decades later.

The post has racked up 6.4 million views on X at the time of writing, along with hundreds of replies.

Users on X criticized the comparison between a professional photo from Welling's Smallville days and a lower-quality image taken in unfavorable lighting.

"Bruh he is a handsome dude, what y'all on about," one fan wrote.

"That's just a bad photo of him from 2022, he probably just put on weight and let himself go a bit through the pandemic, a lot of us did," shared another.

"Bro is a happily married dad, he's not worried about what 4chan dorks think about his looks," remarked someone else.

One user said Welling is "still a gorgeous man," while another asked, "What are you talking about?! He can still get it."

"Idk why they expected him to look 23 forever," a separate comment read.

"'Below average' and it's the hottest picture of a man you've ever seen," another user chimed in.

Others said Welling looks like a typical 48-year-old who has not undergone any cosmetic procedures. "This is how most white guys age without surgical enhancements."

Fans also agreed it was "weird" to compare two photos taken decades apart to analyze how "well" or "badly" someone has aged, adding that the actor was still handsome.

Before becoming an actor, Welling modeled for brands including Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein

Welling lives in California with his wife, equestrian Jessica Rose Lee, and their two sons: 7-year-old Thomson Wylde and 4-year-old Rocklin Von.

The New York native was a construction worker in the late 1990s when he was discovered by a casting director who suggested he try modeling.

He later relocated to Los Angeles and modeled for Tommy Hilfiger, Abercrombie & Fitch, and Calvin Klein.

Still, he said his ambition was always to become an actor, a dream he pursued while modeling for the major brands.

"To me, it's not a very expressive job," he said of modeling. "It's really based solely on what's the outside. I didn't find that it was fulfilling at all. I find acting to be much more fulfilling. You can be much more expressive and you can show a lot more of who you are."

He portrayed Clark Kent in the superhero series Smallville, which follows the character's life before becoming Superman

His first acting role came in 2001 in the legal drama Judging Amy, in which he played a karate teacher, Rob "Karate Rob" Meltzer, the 10-years-younger love interest of Amy Gray.

Though he had originally signed a contract to appear in three episodes, the storyline received positive feedback, and producers kept him on for three more.

After a long audition process, he was cast as Clark Kent in the WB superhero drama Smallville.

"I went to the final screen test between me and another fellow. I was on my way back from the Warner Bros. studio, and I stopped in a gas station to call my manager and tell him how it went," Welling recalled.

"I called and got him on the phone and he said, 'Can you hold on a second?' Next thing I know, there are literally seven people on the other line and almost in unison they say, 'Tom, you got it!"

Welling was named one of People magazine's Breakthrough Stars in 2001

The pilot, which aired in October 2001, was the highest-rated debut for The WB at the time, with 8.4 million viewers.

That year, he was named one of People magazine's Breakthrough Stars. He also took home the Teen Choice Award for Breakout Star (Male) in 2002.

Welling, who admitted that he wasn't a Superman fan before landing the role, launched a podcast titled Talkville in 2022 with fellow Smallville actor Michael Rosenbaum, in which the co-stars comment on every episode of the show.

In February 2025, he attended MegaCon in Orlando to participate in a Superman panel alongside other actors who have portrayed the DC superhero in the past.

The Winchesters actor's appearance came a month after he was arrested for a DUI incident in a fast food restaurant parking lot in Yreka, California.

According to a TMZ report, his blood alc*hol level was measured at or above the legal limit of 0.08 percent.

The actor is also known for Cheaper by the Dozen and Lucifer

The charges against him were dismissed in May after he pleaded no contest. He was sentenced to one year of probation and ordered to pay $619 in fines, $150 in restitution, and attend a DUI program.

This year, Welling is set to star in Chasing Summer, a comedy-drama film about a woman who returns to her hometown and reunites with her childhood friends and former flings following a breakup and the loss of her job.

The new year is all about fresh starts, and JoJo Siwa may be on the brink of a reinvention.

The pop singer and former child dance star, whose real name is Joelle Joanie Siwa, surprised fans when she changed her name to "Joelle Siwa" on her official TikTok account.

Siwa further fueled speculation of a major rebrand with a video post on New Year's Eve. In the seven-second clip, the "Dance Moms" alum playfully lip-synchs to her 2016 bubblegum-pop hit "Boomerang" alongside the on-screen caption, "Any plans for 2026?"

"What a year it is ahead ✨🤍," Siwa, 22, wrote in the post's caption.

USA TODAY has reached out to representatives for Siwa for comment.

Siwa's teaser follows an eventful 2025 – both personally and professionally – for the award-winning singer and media personality.

Following the release of her 2024 EP "Guilty Pleasure," Siwa released five singles this past year, including a cover of the Kim Carnes '80s hit "Bette Davis Eyes." The electropop track, which drew criticism from Carnes herself, has racked up 1.5 million views online.

Siwa also made waves with her love life. The singer, who starred on the latest season of "Celebrity Big Brother," sparked a real-life romance with her costar Chris Hughes after breaking up with Australian influencer Kath Ebbs.

Tommy Lee Jones' late daughter Victoria Jones had a history of legal trouble.

Victoria, who died at age 34 on Thursday, Jan. 1, was arrested at least two times in the past year, according to court dockets reviewed by PEOPLE.

One of those arrests was for drug possession.

On April 28, 2025, Jones was taken into custody in California's Napa County and charged with three misdemeanors: Obstructing a peace officer, being under the influence of a controlled substance without a valid prescription, and possession of a controlled substance without a valid prescription. She pleaded not guilty.

Nearly two months after her May arrest, Victoria was detained again on June 17 in Napa County and charged with misdemeanor domestic battery. She entered a not guilty plea on July 1.

No cause of death has been released for Victoria, who was found unresponsive in a hallway at San Francisco's Fairmont Hotel and declared dead after paramedics arrived. But the call for the incident came in as "code 3 for the overdose, color change," according to audio of the dispatch reviewed by PEOPLE.

NBC Bay Area reported that foul play is not suspected.

Victoria, the daughter of the Men in Black star and his ex-wife, Kimberlea Cloughley, had some small roles in her father's movies, including 2002's Men in Black II and 2005's The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada. She also appeared in one episode of the 2003-12 drama One Tree Hill in 2005. According to her IMDB profile, Victoria's last screen credit was in 2014's The Horseman, directed by her father.

In a 2006 New Yorker profile, Jones opened up about the joys and challenges of working with his then-teenage daughter on The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada.

"She's a good actress, has her SAG card, speaks impeccable Spanish," he told the outlet. "When she was a baby, I told Leticia, her nurse, to speak to her in Spanish."

But he added that her work ethic was lacking. "She had to get up at 5 a.m. for her part," he said. "One morning, she wouldn't get out of bed. I said, 'Honey, this is work.' But she wouldn't budge. So I fired her."

"Then, without telling me, the production staff went over and woke her and rushed her out to the set just in time," he added.
