Hilary Duff has confirmed her song "We Don't Talk" is about her sister, Haylie Duff. **
The "So Yesterday" singer, 38, found herself getting emotional while discussing the track and her estranged relationship with Haylie in a recent *CBS Mornings *interview. **
"Yeah, it is. It's definitely about my sister," Hilary said, before pausing as her eyes welled with tears. "And just absolutely the most lonely part of my existence is not having my sister in my life at the moment."

The former Disney Channel star explained that she "really struggled" with whether or not to include the track on her new album, *Luck… or Something.* **
"But, it's funny, as a person that exists in the world without my other half, so many people are having that experience," she pointed out. "And a lot of conversations I have with people are like, 'Yeah, me too. Me too.'" **
In the end, Hilary chose to include the track because it's her "truth." She added, "And, like I said, so many people are having this experience. It's hard because I'm me and people know everything about my life since I was a child, you know? And I didn't necessarily choose that part, but it's my reality and so it was honestly healing to say."

Hilary also admitted that it can be "hard to watch your life unfold on the internet," where many people were speculating that the song was about Haylie. **
"Sometimes they're wrong, and sometimes they're right, and all of that is just a crazy thing to process," she said. "I think I just try to less and less let that noise seep in but, obviously, it's there."**
When asked if she hoped Haylie hears the track, Hilary replied, "I don't think that that would help."

"I think I have to just exist as a person on my own and do what I want to do. I hope that for everyone that is where I'm sitting — you have to do what you want to do. And you have to do what feels good for you," she said. "It's taken me a lot of time to get there and to live that way and to not care what the noise is going to be around it and just be me."
In fact, she doesn't know if Haylie will ever end up hearing the track.
"I don't know how she'll react to it, but it is a really personal part of my life that doesn't get to stay personal, so I might as well say how it is for me as an experience, you know?" Hilary said. "And that's all I'm trying to do. I'm not trying to say anything bad. It's just my experience, and that's really all I feel like sharing."
As its title suggests, "We Don't Talk" details a complicated relationship between siblings who are no longer on speaking terms.**
"'Cause we come from the same home, the same blood / A different combination, but the same lock," Duff sings. "People ask me how you're doing, I wanna say amazing / But the truth is that I don't know / What I always end up saying is / How we don't talk, we don't talk, talk about it."
Hilary and Haylie used to share a close relationship, with the siblings collaborating on films like *Material Girls* and on songs like their cover of the Go-Go's 1981 hit, "Our Lips Are Sealed." However, the pair have not been photographed together in years.
