Netflix's hit spy thriller stars Gabriel Basso as Peter Sutherland, an FBI agent who's now operates in the shadows as, well, a night agent. Each season, he's drawn into a massive conspiracy he must stop before disaster strikes.

Season 3 premiered on Thursday, Feb. 19, and while fans are gearing up to binge Peter's next mission, the big question is whether he'll return for a fourth season. Here's everything we know so far about *The Night Agent *season 4.

Will there be a season 4 of The Night Agent?

As of now, *The Night Agent *season 4 hasn't been picked up yet. However, even without an official renewal from Netflix, showrunner Shawn Ryan recently revealed to *Deadline *that they're already deep into development on a potential fourth season.

"Season 4 is not officially picked up yet, but a while ago, in calendar year 2025, they did quietly pick up a writers room," he explained, adding that the team has been working on a storyline and scripts for quite some time already. Ryan noted that there's still time to get everything ready before filming needs to start, thanks to scheduling and tax credits.

"To Netflix's credit, they want to make sure that the creative side of things is always buttoned up before committing that amount of money," he said.

Ryan explained that they are currently in the "story-breaking, script-writing phase," and his guess is that a decision on season 4 will come within the next few weeks. If they get the green light, Ryan said they'll "be ready to go with the scripts so that there's not that much time between season 3 and season 4."

He added, "I think Netflix cares about their viewers and is looking for ways to minimize the time between the seasons of their most successful shows."

What is *The Night Agent *season 4 about?

Since a fourth season of *The Night Agent* hasn't been officially confirmed, the details remain a total mystery. If it does happen, fans can expect season 4 to follow Peter as he takes on a new assignment, uncovering more criminal schemes and encountering both new allies and foes along the way.

We can't picture *The Night Agent *without Basso, so he's almost certainly reprising his role as Peter Sutherland in a possible season 4. Since the beginning, he's been leading a mostly new cast each season, which is exactly how Ryan envisioned the series.

"What I had pitched to Netflix from the very beginning is that these will be different stories, oftentimes in different places, and that not a lot of characters will port over from one season to another," the showrunner previously told *TVLine*.

Fola Evans-Akingbola will also likely be back as Secret Service agent Chelsea Arrington, but the rest of the cast is still up in the air.

As for Luciane Buchanan, who played tech genius Rose Larkin in the first two seasons, her future on the show is uncertain. She announced her departure in September 2025, but also hinted at a potential return down the line.

"I won't be returning to Season 3 of *The Night Agent*," she told *Deadline*. "As much as that show has been so amazing, especially for my career … the writers decided that they wanted to follow Peter and his journey based on what happened at the end of Season 2. And so, we don't get to see what happens to Rose, but I think it's a really exciting time for the show, and who knows, it's not a goodbye forever."

When does *The Night Agent *season 4 come out?

There's no word on a release date yet, but Ryan has said he would like to get new seasons on the streamer quickly. If a season 4 renewal comes through soon, *The Night Agent *could still follow an annual schedule with 10 episodes, meaning viewers won't have to wait long between seasons 3 and 4.

"This cadence is easy," Ryan told *Deadline*. "Compared to all the network stuff I did back in the day, you would have just finished making 22 episodes and before you're even done doing post on that final episode, the writers room is starting up for the next season. When I was doing *The Shield *and *The Unit*, I think I made something like 44 episodes of TV in a calendar year. So this is nothing compared to that."
