DHARAMSHALA, India (Reuters) -U.S. President Donald Trump's administration has decided to lift aid cuts for Tibetans in exile and provide $7 million in financing for projects such as those supporting health and education, the leader of the Tibetan government in-exile said on Wednesday. The Trump administration started cutting foreign aid after taking office in January as part of its "America First" policy, which has had an impact on programmes including those aimed at securing food supplies and preventing the spread of HIV in some of the poorest parts of the world. Penpa Tsering, leader of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) in India, the government in-exile, said he believed Tibetans became "collateral damage" in foreign assistance cuts and that their leadership had worked hard to restore U.S. funding. "I'm happy to inform you that the U.S. government has decided to lift the termination," Tsering told reporters in the northern Indian town of Dharamshala on the sidelines of Tibetan Buddhist spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama's 90th birthday celebrations. "We received this communication just day before yesterday." The U.S. embassy in New Delhi did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Tsering said that the U.S. aid cut had affected the momentum of the CTA's work. "We did manage to get stop gap arrangements from other governments. Also, we'll be looking to diversify our sources in the future," he said. The elderly Dalai Lama assured his followers on Wednesday that upon his death he would be reincarnated as the next spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism and spelt out a succession process that sets up a renewed clash with China. Beijing views the Dalai Lama, who fled to India from Tibet in 1959 after a failed uprising against Chinese rule, as a separatist. The United States, which faces rising competition from China for global dominance, has repeatedly said it is committed to advancing the human rights of Tibetans. U.S. lawmakers have previously said they would not allow China to influence the choice of the Dalai Lama's successor. (Reporting by Krishna N. Lindsay Lohan Hints at Big Changes in Long-Awaited 'Freakier Friday'originally appeared onParade. Lindsay Lohan returned to her iconic role as rebellious rock chick Anna Coleman for the upcoming movie "Freakier Friday." A sequel to the hit 2003 Disney film "Freaky Friday," the soon-to-be-released follow-up reintroduces the Coleman family, once again exploring the love-hate dynamic between Anna and her mother, Tess Coleman, played by award-winning actress Jamie Lee Curtis. Ahead of the long-awaited release, the singer-actress offered a glimpse of what fans could expect from the sequel. After more than two decades, the singer-actress promised to bring a new perspective to her character as she entered a bold new chapter of her life. "The whole world looks different," she toldEmpire. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Empire (@empiremagazine) From being a 15-year-old rebellious high school student, she had evolved into a doting mother to her daughter, played by "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" actress Julia Butters. "Everything is about your child," she said, hinting more about Anna Coleman's transformation, adding, "But we have to remember to make time for ourselves too, live our lives, fulfill our dreams. Moms are always trying to juggle it all and that's what Anna's going through in this." Besides being a mother, the sequel also highlights a connection from her past, especially with her former band, Pink Slip. Continuing to tease her nostalgic return, Lohan said that Anna Coleman's punk attitude had always been with her. "That punk Anna, she's still there," the actress furthered. Moreover, the 39-year-old star shared her experience picking up a guitar again and rehearsing for the character's on-stage appearance. "The second I started with my guitar coach again, it was like we never left," Lohan recalled, explaining that it felt like no time had passed. "It was the same guitar, everything. It was like it was yesterday." Lastly, the 2000s It Girl hinted at bigger and more exciting moments, especially with Anna Coleman's show-stopping solo. "We made it more difficult for this one," she teased the public. "I'm such a perfectionist; we rehearsed a lot." "Freakier Friday"is set to be released on August 8, 2025, with Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Chad Michael Murray and Ryan Malgarini, from the original cast, returning for the sequel. Factbox-What is the trust that will identify the Dalai Lama's successor?New Foto - Factbox-What is the trust that will identify the Dalai Lama's successor?

By Krishna N. Das DHARAMSHALA, India (Reuters) -The Dalai Lama said on Wednesday his Gaden Phodrang Trust would have the sole authority to recognise his future reincarnation, rejecting any role for China in choosing who succeeds him as the spiritual head of Tibetan Buddhists. WHAT IS THE GADEN PHODRANG TRUST? The non-profit was registered in 2011 in the northern Indian town of Dharamshala, where the Dalai Lama is based. Its members include the Dalai Lama, senior monk Samdhong Rinpoche and close aides who work in the Dalai Lama's office in Dharamshala. The Dalai Lama heads the trust and its "alternate chairperson", or the second highest official, is Rinpoche, who Tibetans believe to be the reincarnation of a previous high monk. All its members must be based in India. The Dalai Lama and many other Tibetans fled Tibet in 1959 after a failed uprising against Chinese rule. He has since called for a "middle-way approach" that does not seek Tibet's independence from China but demands autonomy for Tibetans to protect and preserve their culture, religion and national identity. WHAT DOES THE TRUST DO? At the moment, the organisation's main job is to support the Dalai Lama's spiritual and humanitarian work. The Dalai Lama said in an address to a religious conference on Wednesday that members of the trust should consult the various heads of Tibetan Buddhist traditions and other senior religious figures to "carry out the procedures of search and recognition in accordance with past tradition". In 2011, he said that he would leave "clear written instructions about this", but Rinpoche said on Wednesday that the Dalai Lama had not yet done so because he was in good health and had promised to live for many more years. The Dalai Lama will celebrate his 90th birthday on July 6. He told Reuters in December he could live until he is 110. ARE THERE OTHER DALAI LAMA NON-PROFITS? There is another Gaden Phodrang non-profit in the Swiss city of Zurich. It also carries out various projects on behalf of the Dalai Lama, is headed by the Dalai Lama and has his aides as its members. Its job is to "maintain and support the tradition and institution of the Dalai Lama with regard to the religious and spiritual duties of the Dalai Lama", it says on its website. US judge says China's Huawei Technologies must face criminal case for racketeering and other chargesNew Foto - US judge says China's Huawei Technologies must face criminal case for racketeering and other charges

BANGKOK (AP) — A U.S. judge has ruled that China's Huawei Technologies, a leading telecoms equipment company, must face criminal charges in a wide reaching case alleging it stole technology and engaged in racketeering, wire and bank fraud and other crimes. U.S. District Judge Ann Donnelly on Tuesday rejected Huawei's request to dismiss the allegations in a 16-count federal indictment against the company, saying in a 52-page ruling that its arguments were premature. The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The U.S. accuses Huawei and some of its subsidiaries of plotting to steal U.S. trade secrets, installing surveillance equipment that enabled Iran to spy on protesters during 2009 anti-government demonstrations in Iran, and of doing business in North Korea despite U.S. sanctions there. During PresidentDonald Trump'sfirst term in office, his administration raised national security concerns and began lobbying Western allies against including Huawei in their wireless, high-speed networks. In its January 2019 indictment, the Justice Department accused Huawei of using a Hong Kong shell company called Skycom to sell equipment to Iran in violation of U.S. sanctions and charged its chief financial officer,Meng Wanzhou, with fraud by misleading the HSBC bank about the company's business dealings in Iran. Meng, the daughter of Huawei's founder, was arrested in Canada in late 2018 on a U.S. extradition request but released in September 2021 in a high-stakes prisoner swap that freed two Canadians held by China and allowed her to return home. Chinese officialshave accusedthe U.S. government of "economic bullying" and of improperly using national security as a pretext for "oppressing Chinese companies." In their motion to dismiss the broad criminal case, among other arguments Huawei's lawyers contended that the U.S. allegations were too vague and some were "impermissibly extraterritorial," and do not involve domestic wire and bank fraud. The biggest maker of network gear, Huawei struggled to hold onto its market share under sanctions that have blocked its access to most U.S. processor chips and other technology. The limits led it to ramp up its own development of computer chips and other advanced technologies. The company alsoshifted its focusto the Chinese market and to network technology for hospitals, factories and other industrial customers and other products that would not be affected by U.S. sanctions.

Woman Demands Hotel Guest Let Her Use His Room Because Hers Isn't Ready, Gets Mad When He's Not 'Comfortable'New Foto - Woman Demands Hotel Guest Let Her Use His Room Because Hers Isn't Ready, Gets Mad When He's Not 'Comfortable'

Getty A Reddit user shared how he says a woman demanded to "borrow" his hotel room after check-in because hers was taking longer than expected to be ready The man refused, saying he didn't know her and felt uncomfortable with the unusual request Commenters called the woman entitled and warned that the situation could have been a scam or a life-threatening risk A 30-year-old man is sharing his unique experience of a woman demanding he let her "borrow" his hotel room, In a post on the Reddit"r/EntitledPeople", the original poster, or OP, describes the hotel where the incident allegedly took place as mid-range, clean, quiet and "nothing fancy." He waited in line behind a woman who was audibly annoyed, he says. He notes overhearing the details, which seemed to involve her room not being prepared in time for her arrival because of "the room type or cleaning schedule." "When it was my turn, the front desk handed me my key without issue as my room was ready early. So, I thanked them and started heading toward the elevator," wrote OP. "That's when she suddenly turned to me and said, 'Wait, your room's ready? Seriously? I've been waiting here, and you just walk in and get one?'" When the OP confirmed his room must have been prepped already, the woman asked, "Can I use your room for like half an hour? Just to freshen up and lie down or something? I've been waiting, and I'm exhausted." Shocked by the ask, he says he apologized and told her, "I'm not comfortable with that." Getty The woman allegedly pressed the issue, asking the OP, "What's the big deal? We're both staying here. It's not like I'm some random person," to which OP doubled down and replied, "Still, I don't know you. I'm not letting someone I just met into my hotel room. You'll have to wait like everyone else." The man went on about his day, but when he saw the woman in the hotel restaurant later, he says she was clearly still annoyed – shooting him "a dirty look." The poster and commenters nearly all agreed that her level of entitlement was unwarranted; however, the bigger issue was the lack of concern for her own safety. "Shouldn't she be more cautious of strangers than me? She didn't know me," the OP questioned in his post. "I could've been anyone. What if I was a creep or worse? Some people have zero awareness when entitlement takes over." Between comments accusing the woman of being a potential scammer who could accuse him of foul play – or worse, her possibly being a serial killer setting up her next target – Redditors were also concerned for the woman's general logic, wondering if she was suggesting the man let her be alone with his possessions in his room. "Are you sure she didn't expect you to let her use your room without you in it? She sounds just a wee bit unhinged," a commenter wrote, to which the OP replied, "Now that you've mentioned it, I'm actually thinking that was what she wanted. I didn't even give her the chance to clarify. I just refused right away because the whole thing felt off. But yeah, it definitely seemed like she expected me to hand over the room and leave her in it alone. Looking back, that makes it even weirder." Though the OP may have made an unexpected enemy, it's safe to say he saved himself and the woman from a situation that would be awkward at best. Read the original article onPeople
