Authorities and volunteers continue to search for more than170 missing peoplein central Texas after flash floods devastated the area last weekend.At least 121 peoplehave been confirmed dead from the flooding, according to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and local law enforcement, which was caused by the Guadalupe River near Kerrville rising 26 feet within 45 minutes. The Guadalupe River runs through an area nicknamed "Flash Flood Alley" because of how common floods are during storms there. A large majority of the deaths were in Kerr County, where Camp Mystic, an all-girls' camp along the river, experienced severe flooding in the early morning hours of July 4. At least 27 people at Camp Mystic — campers and counselors — died during the flood, including the camp's owner and executive director, Dick Eastland,who died trying to rescue some of his young campers. The victims were staying in lower-level cabins, which were located right by the river, while older campers were in cabins that were at a higher elevation, according to a map of the camp layout obtained byCBS News. Hunt, Texas, which is where Camp Mystic is located, is also a rural area withlow water crossing bridges, which are high enough to allow water flow to run beneath them but can easily be flooded, which can make it hard for residents to fully evacuate the area, CBS News reported. The camp, which was established in 1926, has experienced a long history of flooding from the Guadalupe River, leading to multiple evacuations and damages across the campgrounds,according to CNN. The July 4 flood was the most damaging disaster in the area, followed by a flooding in 1987 in which 10 children at a different camp nearby were killed. Camp Mystic's grounds were "horrendously ravaged" by the flooding, Abbottwrote in a social media poston July 5 after touring the campsite. State officials inspected Camp Mystic just two days before the flooding and found no deficiencies or violations in its list of health and safety criteria,the Associated Pressreported. Russialaunched more aerial attackson Ukraine in June than in any other month of the war so far, causing the highest number of civilians killed or woundedsince the conflict broke outmore than three years ago, according to a tally by the United Nations and independent researchers. The onslaught of armed drones, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles raining down on Ukrainian towns and cities has underscored Russia's determination to press on with its war against Ukraine despite President Donald Trump's efforts to halt the bloodshed. The Russian aerial attacks have been steadily increasing since July 2024, with the number of strikes exceeding 2,500 in each of the first six months of this year, according to the nonprofit Institute for the Study of War, which cited figures from Ukraine's defense ministry. The difference over the same period last year is stark. Between January and June, Russian drone and missile attacks numbered 23,245, a roughly 605 % increase compared to the same period last year when there were 3,300, according to the Washington-based institute. The expansion was driven by a massive increase in drone assaults, which jumped from 2,264 in the first half of 2024 to 22,495 in the first half of 2025, according to the tally. As a result of those aerial attacks, the toll of civilians killed and wounded increased to 6,719, up about 53% from the same period in 2024,according to U.N. monitors. The civilian toll included 1,091 deaths and 5,628 wounded. "Civilians across Ukraine are facing levels of suffering we have not seen in over three years," Danielle Bell, head of the U.N. Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, said in a statement. "The surge in long-range missile and drone strikes across the country has brought even more death and destruction to civilians far away from the frontline." June marked the highest monthly civilian casualty toll in three years, with 232 killed and 1,343 wounded, according to the United Nations. In the month of June, Russian forces fired 5,681 drones and missiles on Ukraine – the highest number since Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022. The aerial assault included 5,438 drones and 243 missiles, according to the Institute for the Study of War. Russia has kept up the tempo of drone and missile attacks in July, forcing Ukrainians in cities toseek shelterunderground in subway stations.Smoke roseover Kyiv on Wednesday and Thursday night from Russian drone and missile strikes that ignited fires and destroyed apartment buildings, NBC News and The Associated Press reported from the capital. On Wednesday night, Russia fired more than 700 attack and decoy drones on Ukraine, along with missiles. On Thursday night, 397 Iranian-designed Shahed and decoy drones werelaunchedagainst Kyiv and other regions, according to Ukrainian officials. With Russian troops unable to score a breakthrough on the ground despite a significant manpower advantage, Moscow has stepped up its missile and drone attacks on the country's cities to try to overwhelm air defenses, undermine the resolve of the government in Kyiv before any peace talks, and break the will of the wider population, current and former Western diplomats say. "These attacks are on civilian targets, so it's an attempt to demoralize Ukrainians, to convince Ukrainians that they can't win," said William Taylor, a former career U.S. diplomat who served in Kyiv. Christina Harward, a Russian analyst at the Institute for the Study of War, said previous attempts by Russia to damage morale have failed. The air attacks also indicated Russia's weapons production and stockpiles had increased, especially long-range drones, Harward said. "Russia may also be trying to distract from the battlefield, where Russian gains on the front are still relatively slow and are coming at huge personnel costs," she said. Before he took office in January, Trump had pledged to end the war in "a day." He initiallysuggested that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyyand his government were the main obstacle to bringing an end to the conflict, which began with Russia's invasion of the Crimean peninsula in 2014 and its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The bar exploded during Episode 32's dumping whenTaylor and Clarke were sent homeafter receiving the fewest votes. When Something Different dropped their initial flyer for the "Love Island" series, it was met with a good reaction. "People love it. I remember the first one that we hosted. I was very shocked to see the outcome and the way that people engage with the show," Albury said. "I think that was incredible. It felt like a sports game." 'Love Island USA' Season 7 cast:See every islander so far Triniti Lemmons, 25, said she felt a similar feeling during a watch party at Texas Live!, a bar in Arlington. The show was plastered on multiple jumbo screens inside the establishment. A person in northern Arizona has died from a case of pneumonic plague, local health officials said. The unidentified patient, from Coconino County, showed up to the Flagstaff Medical Center Emergency Department and died there the same day, Northern Arizona Healthcare said in a statement. It is unclear when the death occurred. The hospital noted that "appropriate initial management" and "attempts to provide life-saving resuscitation" was performed, but "the patient did not recover." Rapid diagnostic testing led to a presumptive diagnosis of Yersinia pestis. Coconino County Health and Human Services said testing results confirmed Friday that the patient died from pneumonic plague, described as "a severe lung infection caused by the Yersinia pestis bacterium." This marked the first recorded death from pneumonic plague in the county since 2007, when an individual had an interaction with a dead animal infected with the disease, according to county officials. The most common forms of plague are bubonic, pneumonic, and septicemic. Pneumonic plague "develops when bacteria spread to the lungs of a patient with untreated bubonic or septicemic plague, or when a person inhales infectious droplets coughed out by another person or animal with pneumonic plague," according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Bubonic plague — known for killing millions in Europe in the Middle Ages — is now rare but some cases are reported in the rural western U.S. every year, as well as in certain regions of Africa and Asia, according to the CDC. The disease is caused by the bacterium Yersinia pestis and affects people and other mammals. Symptoms usually appear within two to six days of infection and include fever and swollen painful lymph nodes, most commonly found in the armpit, groin and neck. An average of seven human plague cases are reported each year in the U.S., but those cases aren't always fatal, according todata from the CDC from 2000 to 2023. Humans are usually infected through a bite of an infected rodent flea or by handling an animal carrying the disease, according to theCDC. It can be easily cured if given antibiotics early. The hospital is working with the Coconino County Health and Human Services Department and the Arizona Department of Health Services to investigate the case. "NAH would like to remind anyone who suspects they are ill with a contagious disease to contact their health care provider. If their illness is severe, they should go to the Emergency Department and immediately ask for a mask to help prevent the spread of disease while they access timely and important care," the hospital said. Earlier in the week, theCoconino County Health and Human Services (CCHHS)reported a prairie dog die-off in the Townsend Winona area, northeast of Flagstaff — which officials said "can be an indicator of plague." The department noted the recent death is not related to the prairie dog die-off. The impacted area was on private land and the CCHHS was working with the property owner to collect fleas for testing. Burrows will also be treated to reduce flea activity and the area will be monitored. "Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the deceased," said Coconino County Board of Supervisors Chair Patrice Horstman. "We are keeping them in our thoughts during this difficult time. Out of respect for the family, no additional information about the death will be released."
