Ex-Pearl Jam Drummer Reveals If He'll Ever Rejoin the Bandoriginally appeared onParade. In the wake ofMatt Cameronannouncing his departure fromPearl Jamafter nearly forty years of playing drums for the rock group, fans speculated about who might replace him. Could it beJosh Freese, the newly dismissedFoo Fighters drummer? Or could it beZak Starkey, whogot the axfrom The Who? Some have even brought upDave Abbruzzese. Abbruzzese played with Pearl Jam from 1991 to 1994, replacingMatt Chamberlainshortly before the band released their debut album,Ten. Abbruzzese played on the following two albums—Vs.andVitalogy—though the band would fire him over personality conflicts right beforeVitalogyhit stores. And it appears those conflicts are still in place, according to a new Facebook post by Abbruzzese. "It seems the guys in the band matured and grew up as much as I did, but the fact that I haven't had any personal contact with any of them leads me to believe the water under the bridge runs too deep and too icy for there to be any reconnection or reconciliation," he wrote in a lengthy message on July 8. "This is a shame and saddens me greatly," he added. "I know I could and would have much to contribute if indeed the call came, but sadly, I don't see that happening." Abbruzzese claimed that he experienced "trials and tribulations" by "the actions of the band's management and the band's old label." However, he doesn't hold a grudge againstEddie Vedder, Stone Gossard, Mike McCreadyorJeff Ament. "With the exceptions of some petty comments and actions that I never quite understood or expected, I have never placed blame and harbored resentments towards the members of the band," he wrote. "Although I never truly understood what was so important to destroy the musical chemistry we had back then, it is what it is, and I can't do anything about it," he added. "I wish Pearl Jam and its organization continued success, and I do hope that there will come a day that we can again connect on some level." How Liam Payne's death is addressed in 'Building the Band'New Foto - How Liam Payne's death is addressed in 'Building the Band'

Liam Payne's memory lives on in "Building the Band." Thelate One Direction singermakes his final television appearance in the new Netflix singing competition — and fans are tuning in to see his last moments on screen. Payne died on Oct. 16, 2024, after falling from a third floor balcony of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was 31. His death sent a wave of shock across the world, as fans of the musician mourned his sudden death. Before he died, Payne had filmed "Building the Band," working as a judge alongside host and Backstreet Boy AJ McLean, mentor and judge Nicole Scherzinger and judge Kelly Rowland. The competition show brings together singers, isolated in their own pods a la "Love Is Blind," who create their own groups without ever seeing one another. All they have to go off are the person's vocals and the chemistry they create together. Payne, as well as Rowland, bring in their expertise and personal experience to the competition. "He lit up any room that he walked into," McLean tells TODAY.com. "Whether it was a dressing room, on set, where he was, he lit up that space with his energy, with his open heart, open mind. He was extremely, very well spoken, very articulate when it came to giving feedback as a mentor to these groups." McLean adds that Payne was "very supportive, rigorously honest in a compassionate way" and "the coolest dude" on set. They also bonded over their shared boy band and life experiences. As the first four episodes stream on Netflix on July 9, the premiere addresses Payne's unexpected death. The first episode opens with a message from McLean, paying tribute to Payne. "When we came together to film 'Building the Band,' we never imagined we'd soon be saying goodbye to our friend, Liam Payne," McLean says in the first episode. "Liam is a guest judge in later episodes, and through his presence, we see his deep love for music and his unwavering commitment to helping others find their voice." As photos and video footage of Payne from his time on the show appear on the screen, McLean adds, "It's through that spirit that we dedicate this series to Liam and his family." Payne's autopsy reportfrom the Argentina National Prosecutor's Office shows that he died of "polytrauma and internal and external bleeding" after his fall. Preliminary toxicology results, unconfirmed by NBC News at the time, found that he had multiple substances in his system when he fell, reportedly including "pink cocaine," a cocktail of drugs including methamphetamine, ketamine, MDMA and more, as well as cocaine, benzodiazepine and crack, according to sources quoted by ABC News. One month after his death,a private funeral servicetook place at St. Mary's Church in the town of Amersham, just outside of London, on Nov. 20. Among the attendees included the other members of One Direction, Payne's then-girlfriendKate Cassidy, and Cheryl Cole, the mother ofhis son, Bear.

Freddie, the CBP beagle kicked at Dulles Airport, is returning to workNew Foto - Freddie, the CBP beagle kicked at Dulles Airport, is returning to work

A police K9 is returning to its post at Dulles International Airport this morning, two weeks after allegedly beingkicked by a travelerwhile screening the man's luggage. The dog's handler, Customs and Border Protection Agriculture Specialist Melissa Snyder, told CBS News' Major Garrett that the 5-year-old beagle named Freddie had alerted her to a bag possibly containing fruit and other foods in the baggage claim area of the Virginia airport on June 24. The luggage belonged to Hamed Aly Marie, 70, an Egyptian national who had arrived on EgyptAir Flight 981 with his wife. When Snyder asked the couple about the contents of their luggage, Marie delivered an "intentional kick" to the right side of Freddie's ribcage, hard enough to lift the dog off the ground and cause bruising and a contusion, according to CBP.  Luckily, Snyder said "it scared him more than anything." Freddie was taken to a veterinary emergency room while Marie was arrested by CBP and handed over to investigative authorities from Homeland Security, according to Snyder. Now, after a couple weeks of recovery, Freddie is ready to head back to work. Originally a rescue dog, Freddie has spent 22 months with CBP, which trained the beagle to locate and identify travelers bringing in food items from overseas, protecting against the potential introduction of pests or blights that could devastate parts of the U.S. agricultural industry. It's a big responsibility for a small dog, but Snyder said that for Freddie, the job is more fun than real work. "He thinks we're playing hide-and-seek and he loves to play hide-and-seek all day," Snyder said. "To him it's the greatest game in the world, because he gets paid in treats." Beagles are especially good for airport work, and it's not just because of their powerful sense of smell, Snyder said. Freddie's breed can come across as less threatening than other, larger dogs, creating a calmer environment for everyone. During his nearly two years with CBP, Freddie has put his skills to good work, sniffing out 4,500 pounds of plant products and 3,800 pounds of meat – including 140 pounds of bushmeat from rats, snakes, camels and crocodiles. Marie's bag was filled with more than 100 pounds of agricultural items prohibited from entering the U.S., according to a statement from CBP. A day later, he pleaded guilty to a federal criminal count of malicious assault on a police animal and was sentenced to time served, alongside an agreement to pay Freddie's $840 veterinarian fee. CBP reported that Marie flew back to Egypt on June 26. Sneak peek: Who Killed Aileen Seiden in Room 15?
