"Paranormal Activity" is readying to haunt the London stage. A new play inspired by the hit horror film franchise will open on the West End this winter. As the official title, "Paranormal Activity: A New Story Live on Stage," suggests, the show is a new take on the supernatural world rather than a direct adaptation of any of the movies. This production will run at the Ambassadors Theatre for 12 weeks, starting on Dec. 5. So they use a camera to document the unsettling shadow in their midst. A press release describes the show as a reimagining of the modern ghost story with an "unsettling intimacy only theater can provide." "I'm so thrilled that 'Paranormal' will have a chance to ensnare and unnerve audiences in London later this year," says Barrett, who directed the immersive hit "Sleep No More," which ran at the Manhattan's McKittrick Hotel for 14 years. "From seeing the advertising campaign of the film 20 years ago, where you watched cinema audiences leap out of their chairs in horror, I have long wondered how you could recreate that visceral reaction in a theater setting. How do you bring one of the most frightening films to life? How do you break the inherent safety that a plush West End theater offers? It's been an incredible challenge, and we cannot wait to see how London audiences respond." Paramount released the original "Paranormal Activity," which grossed nearly $200 million worldwide against a minuscule budget and kicked off a commercially successful seven-film franchise. The play was first produced at England's Leeds Playhouse in 2024. Ahead of its London debut, "Paranormal Activity" will embark this fall on a North American tour with stops at Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Center Theatre Group and Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles, Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington DC, and American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco. "Collaborating with Felix Barrett to create an actual nightmare has been nothing short of a dream," Holloway says. "Relishing in a shared language of dread, we've conspired to create something impossible, mixing the familiar with the uncanny, heart with horror. London audiences have a nose for honesty on stage and little patience for anything else. They'll find it here, right alongside all the mischief we've made to trouble their sleep." A woman lost her arm over the weekend after she was attacked by a lion inside a zoo in Australia. According to anews release from the Darling Downs Zooin Queensland, a 50-year-old woman was watching animal keepers working in the zoo's carnivore precinct on the morning of July 6. "This is something that she has done many, many times over the past 20 years. She is well versed in safety protocols around potentially dangerous animals," the statement said. But, according to the zoo, the lion "inexplicably" began to attack the woman, grabbing her by one arm, causing severe damage to it. In a laterpost on Monday, July 7, the zoo wrote that the woman lost her arm. "At no stage did this animal leave its enclosure and there was no risk at all to staff members or members of the public," according to the zoo's post, adding that the woman was not in the animal's enclosure. The woman is in a stable condition after being airlifted to a hospital in Brisbane, where she was operated on, the zoo said. The zoo said the woman was not a staff member, keeper or visitor, but instead a "much loved member" of the zoo's family. According to the zoo, they are working with police and other officials to investigate the incident andsaidthat the "lioness" will not be put down or punished in any way. "Police and Workplace Health and Safety personnel are investigating this incident and have been onsite all morning," the zoo said. "The zoo is working with them to establish how this incident occurred, but the full details will not be known until our family member can be interviewed." "I invested in a bunch of property and doing other things and I was building at the time," the singer said before continuing. "Sadly, it wasn't the right partnership, if you know what I'm saying" Kevin then stopped himself from elaborating, saying that he couldn't share any more details. He did add, though, that he "learned a lot of lessons" from the experience. "Thankfully for life in general, like we had a second shot and bite at the apple with the band coming back together," Kevin said, continuing. "It was kind of fortuitous in a way." Kevin said he was able to reevaluate and apply those difficult financial lessons the second time around, and it changed the way he thinks about the music business. They released their debut albumIt's About Timein 2006 and starred in Disney'sCamp Rockin 2008. But in 2013, thebrothers called it quits. "When it ended it was not good," the youngest Jonas Brother said in an interview with Z100 in 2019. "It was a couple years of rebuilding our family, and in our mind it seemed impossible for us to do this ever again." The band split for five years and during that time they worked on their own personal projects. Kevin followed hisentrepreneurial pursuits, which included creating a company called The Blu Market, providing social media influencers with strategic support. He also invested in the tech world, helping create the restaurant-finding app Yood and becoming a partner of social media app We Heart It. Then, in 2019, the brothers announced their comeback onJames Corden's Late Late Show.Their album,Happiness Begins,was later released in June of that year, along with a documentary detailing the band's history. According to Kevin, making the Amazon Prime Video film,Chasing Happiness, was part oftheir healing process. Heavy rains drenched the Ruidoso area of southern New Mexico on Tuesday and triggered flash flooding, with fast-moving water seen carrying a house downstream. Three people have been treated for injuries, and there have been no confirmed fatalities as of Tuesday night, Kerry Gladden, a spokesperson for the village of Ruidoso, told CBS News. Some people are unaccounted for, but the number is unclear, Gladden said. Earlier Tuesday, theNational Weather Service saidmultiple rescue missions were underway at Gavilan Trailer Park in Ruidoso, and that a father and two children in Lincoln, New Mexico, had been washed away in flood waters. It wasn't immediately clear if they had been rescued. Emergency crews carried out at least 85 swift water rescues in the Ruidoso area, including people who were trapped in their homes and cars, Danielle Silva of the New Mexico Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management told The Associated Press. The Rio Ruidoso, a river in Lincoln County, rose about 19 feet in just minutes, AP reported. Gladden said the Hollywood gauge on the Rio Ruidoso hit a record level during the flash flood, 5 inches higher than the previous mark, illustrating how fast the flooding hit. According toreal-time datafrom the U.S. Geological Survey, water levels at the 30-mile-long river located about 150 miles southeast of Albuquerque were "extremely above" its historic daily averages on Tuesday evening. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said in a statement Tuesday that the National Weather Service issued a flood watch for the South Central Mountains, including Ruidoso, at 2:46 a.m. MT. That warning was to be in effect from noon until 8 p.m. local time, NOAA said. A flash flood warning was issued for the South Fork burn scar in Lincoln County, New Mexico, at 2:12 p.m., and included a "considerable" flooding tag, which NOAA said "automatically triggers a Wireless Emergency Alert to be issued for the warned area." NOAA said the warning was upgraded to a flash flooding emergency about 30 minutes later. Avideo postedon social media by Ruidoso resident Kaitlyn Carpenter shows fast-moving water sweeping a home down a river.Another videoshows flood water carrying a myriad of debris down a river bank before reaching a small bridge and inundating the roadway. Carpenter, whose art studio was swept away during a flood last year, told The AP she was riding her motorcycle through town Tuesday afternoon when the storm started to pick up, and she sought shelter at the riverside Downshift Brewing Company with dozens of other people. She started to film debris rushing down the Rio Ruidoso river when she spotted a house floating by with a familiar turquoise door. It belonged to the family of one of her best friends. Her friend's family was not in the house and is safe, she said. "I've been in that house and have memories in that house, so seeing it come down the river was just pretty heartbreaking," Carpenter told AP. "I just couldn't believe it." About a dozen roads were closed because of debris, Gladden said, and the cleanup is underway after water receded. Another 30 minutes later and it's hard to tell where the riverbed is. Wildfires can significantly change the landscape, including reducing vegetation — which decreases the number of plants and roots to hold all the soil in place.
