Even the god of thunder can feel awkward sometimes.
Marvel stars Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo, who play Thor and the Hulk/Bruce Banner in the MCU, are reteaming for a film outside the world of comic books: the gritty heist thriller *Crime 101. *While the duo has long wanted to work together on a project sans superpowers, Hemsworth admits in an interview with ** that playing such wildly different characters presented unique challenges.**
"I've had so much fun in the Marvel films working with everyone, but that felt incredibly special, that relationship, because we're doing something very different and unique to the space," Hemsworth says of his dynamic with Ruffalo. "Mark is one of the kindest people in the world and most talented, and to be able to improvise in a comedic space, and act together and it feel like you have a trusted scene partner is a blessing."**
In the Marvel films, Ruffalo and Hemsworth play friends and teammates who share a comedic banter that has become a hallmark of the franchise, particularly in the solo Thor sequels. But in *Crime 101*, they play antagonists on opposite sides of the law. Hemsworth stars as a prolific jewel thief, while Ruffalo plays the detective hot on his trail.

"When this came along, it was obviously very unfamiliar territory for our dynamic," Hemsworth says.
"We immediately wanted to go back to Thor and Banner, Banner and Thor," Ruffalo adds.
"I personally felt it was like acting in front of a family member, where they know all your tricks, and you feel a lot more self-conscious," Hemsworth continues. "But that kind of lent itself to what my character was supposed to be feeling in that moment, so it really helped."
"And I was just looking at him, going, *He's so good," *Ruffalo gushes. "I love him so much, and I'm so excited to see him do this kind of part, and the vulnerability that he had."

Speaking to the differences between Thor and Hemsworth's *Crime 101* character, Mike, the *Task* star says, "Chris is someone who knows what to do when the time is right to do it, and we love him for that. But this character doesn't know what to do sometimes. At some glance, he's like the best jewelry thief in the world, [but] when you scratch the surface a little bit more, the guy's just a mess, you know? And that was exciting to see."
In fact, the character was so different than what Ruffalo was used to seeing from Hemsworth, he says, "When I did see him on set, I didn't recognize him, honestly."
Also starring Halle Berry, Barry Keoghan, and Monica Barbaro, *Crime 101* hits theaters on Friday.
