Linda Hamilton is opening up about her life out of the spotlight in New Orleans.

During an exclusive conversation with PEOPLE about the 69-year-old's cameo season 4 premiere of AMC's Dark Winds, the actress called her decision to move to Louisiana "totally amazing."

"It's been the stupidest thing, but that's the universe rewarding me somehow by putting me here," The Terminator star says. "I love New Orleans. I really love it."

Hamilton has been living in The Big Easy for about 10 years, she revealed to AARP magazine in a November 2025 interview. The actress left California for a family farm in Virginia about 15 years ago and after her father died, she decided to give New Orleans a try."People don't really come and see you and visit when you have a family farm," she told the outlet. "They do come and see you when you live in New Orleans… I didn't have a friend here and I bought the first house I saw, found it on Zillow, like I'm really trying to live that life."

Today, the Resident Alien star tells PEOPLE she wants to "reinvent myself" as the "grandy" of her first grandchild, 1, who lives nearby. Hamilton's son — Dalton Abbot, 36, whom she shares with ex-husband Bruce Abbot — welcomed a baby last year.

"That is a treasured time. I want more of it," she says. "I wanted to be that grandmother in his life… I feel just so deeply planted in my life because there's this little guy that shares it, and it's really an amazing feeling."

She adds: "There is just this connection between him and I. So I'm happy to go with that for the rest of the year, really."

In August 2025, the actress told PEOPLE she hadn't been anxious to become a grandma."I have not been sitting around for 20 years hoping for a grandchild — I'm too busy. So there was no pressure, no weight [on my children]," Hamilton said during a discussion about her film, Osiris. "I frankly feel like I've just gotten rid of my babies, you know what I mean? I don't want more babies."

She added: "Of course, I loved my babies, but there's something very connected with [my grandson] and I. And it really doesn't have anything to do with, 'Oh, he's my legacy,' or, 'Oh, he reminds me of my son.' It's nothing like that. It's just like, 'Oh my God, this little creature.' "

When she isn't spending time with family, the Stranger Things actress has another group to hang out with.

"I have a coffee club," Hamilton says, describing her perfect day off set. "We meet in the morning and just start the day right. But mostly it's a quiet day."

"I'm an introvert. I think years ago I came up with my formula, which is about 80% of my time has to be alone," she says. "Just give me books and a pile of animals and just leave me alone and I'm happy."
