The following contains spoilers for Wicked: For Good.

Jonathan Bailey knows there's no place like home, so he decided to watch Wicked: For Good with his family. The catch? They had no idea he was going to join them for their movie-watching experience.

The Wicked: For Good star was captured in a fan video, surprising his sister, brother-in-law, and two nieces at their movie screening on Sunday in Sydney, Australia.

The actor, who plays Fiyero in the original movie musical and its just-released sequel, quietly snuck into the theater before announcing his presence on the microphone, shocking the entire audience that included his family members.

"I'm here to surprise my sister, who's over here, and my two nieces, and her husband," Bailey told the surprised crowd. "And I hope you don't mind, but I'm going to watch it with you."

As the theater cheered and applauded, Bailey added with a smile, "Enjoy the film."

Bailey then returned the microphone before running down the theater aisle with his arms wide open to hug his sister. The two hugged fiercely as gasps and "awwww's" could be heard throughout the theater audience in the video of the moment, which can be watched on TikTok.

Bailey has spoken about his close relationship with his family previously and shared a story of how he cried with his niece at the Wicked: For Good premiere in London.

"I was there with my family and all my school friends and my niece was there," Bailey said on Late Night With Seth Meyers earlier this month. "I was just watching her sit there, and she was just completely taking it in, and I started crying, and I couldn't stop."

While Bailey had to endure the experience of watching his character's love scene with Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) in Wicked: For Good while sitting with his family, at least they didn't see his kiss scene with Glinda (Ariana Grande) that was cut for being "too passionate."

The musical film's screenwriter, Dana Fox, revealed in an interview on Wednesday that the two stars filmed a kiss scene that was ultimately scrapped because their passion didn't make sense for their engaged-yet-estranged characters, since Fiyero left Glinda for Elphaba soon after.

"There was a scene between Fiyero and Glinda that we cut in which they kissed," Fox said. "It was romantic and beautiful, but a little too passionate. Seeing that made it too hard to watch him make the choice he makes to be with Elphaba, and made it too hard to make it okay that Elphaba ran off with him. It was too real that he and Glinda were actually feeling something together."

Fox added that the kiss scene was "cut for exactly the right reasons," even though she admitted that the actors' performances were powerful.

"It was like a feeling that he really did love her, which he does care about Glinda a lot, don't get me wrong," the screenwriter explained. "But he likes her in a different way. But this scene was too romantic, so it was like, 'Oh, we can't know that because then our brains will explode when he doesn't choose her in the end. And then we'll hate Elphaba, Glinda, and Fiyero.' So, I think it was a good cut because it was too adorable that you simply couldn't handle it."

Wicked: For Good is now playing in theaters — now with elevated chances of a surprise Bailey appearance in your screening.
