Bruce Willis' wife, Emma Heming Willis, is sharing how their family rings in the holidays, and one of their staples reveals her answer to the age-old the debate over whether* Die Hard* is a Christmas movie.

"I think it's important to put *Die Hard* on because it's a Christmas movie," the model and entrepreneur quipped to PEOPLE in a recent interview. The 1988 action classic starring her husband as reluctant hero John McClane is essential Yuletide viewing for the Willis clan, regardless of any arguments over the film's suitability for the season.**

While the actor himself has downplayed the film's status as a Christmas movie — Bruce famously declared that *Die Hard* is "a goddamn Bruce Willis movie" at his Comedy Central roast* *— Emma said he won't have complaints about her choice of entertainment. "Bruce loved Christmas and we love celebrating it with him," she told PEOPLE.**

Even as the family navigates Bruce's living with frontotemporal dementia, Emma said, "There is still joy. It just looks different."

"You have to learn and adapt and make new memories, bring in the same traditions that you had before," she added. "Life goes on. It just goes on. Dementia is hard, but there is still joy in it. I think it's important that we don't paint such a negative picture around dementia."

Emma and Bruce, who starred in the films *Red 2* and* Perfect Stranger* together, tied the knot in 2009 and share daughters Mabel and Evelyn. Willis is also dad to daughters Tallulah, Scout, and Rumer with ex-wife Demi Moore.**

The actor's family has been transparent about the highs and lows of his health since his aphasia diagnosis in 2022, which progressed to a frontotemporal dementia diagnosis in 2023.

Emma in particular has spread awareness about FTD on social media and in interviews. She published a book in September,* The Unexpected Journey: Finding Strength, Hope, and Yourself on the Caregiving Path*, intended to serve as a "supportive guide" for caregivers navigating a loved one's dementia diagnosis.

During the ABC special *Emma & Bruce Willis: The Unexpected Journey*, which aired over the summer, Emma shared that although Bruce's brain is "failing him," there are still moments when she sees glimmers of his joyous personality shine through.

"Not days, but we get moments," she said. "It's his laugh, right? Like, he has such a hearty laugh. And, you know, sometimes you'll see that twinkle in his eye, or that smirk, and, you know, I just get, like, transported."

She appeared visibly emotional as she continued, "And it's just hard to see, because as quickly as those moments appear, then it goes. It's hard. But I'm grateful. I'm grateful that my husband is still very much here."**
