"Dawson's Creek" co-stars remember James Van Der Beek: "One in a billion"

James Van Der Beek's "Dawson's Creek" co-stars are sharing memories and tributes to him after his death this week at 48 years old.

Katie Holmes, who played co-lead and love interest Joey Potter, said that Van Der Beek's death is a "lot to process," and she shared a handwritten note where she remembered him as a "hero."

"I mourn this loss with a heart holding the reality of his absence and deep gratitude for his imprint on it," Holmes wrote, in part.

In a paragraph addressed to Van Der Beek's wife Kimberly, Holmes said she would always "be there to shower you with Love and Compassion."

"I am so grateful to have shared in a piece of James' journey," Holmes wrote in the caption of her post. "He is beloved."

Busy Philipps, who joined "Dawson's Creek" in its fifth season, said her "heart is deeply hurting" for "every person who knew James and loved him, anyone who loved his work or had the pleasure of meeting him, all of his dear friends and community that surrounded him as he battled this illness, especially his parents and brother and sister."

"James Van Der Beek was one in a billion and he will be forever missed and i don't know what else to say. i am just so so sad. He was my friend and i loved him and i'm so grateful for our friendship all these years," Philipps wrote, alongside a photo of Van Der Beek.

Chad Michael Murray, who also joined "Dawson's Creek" in Season 5, said Van Der Beek "inspired all of us."

"His words, art and humanity inspired all of us — he inspired us to be better in all ways," Murray wrote, in part, in a comment under the post announcing Van Der Beek's death.

Mary Margaret Humes, who played Dawson's mother on the show, remembered Van Der Beek as a "gracious warrior" who "fought a hard battle against all odds with such quiet strength and dignity."

Philipps and Murray highlighted a GoFundMe that the Van Der Beek family has shared to raise money to pay off his medical costs. Van Der Beek said in November that he was auctioning off memorabilia from throughout his career to help pay for care. The online fundraiser has raised over $1.3 million as of Thursday morning.

Van Der Beek announced in November 2024 that he had been diagnosed with colorectal cancer and was undergoing treatment. His official cause of death has not been shared.

Colorectal cancer has become a leading cause of cancer-related deaths for Americans under the age of 50, and cases have been rising in that age group in recent years.

Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni are one step closer to trial.

No settlement was reached after the two actors, who costarred in the 2024 blockbuster "It Ends with Us," met for their premiere day of mediation Wednesday, Feb. 11. Bryan Friedman, one of Baldoni's lawyers, confirmed the news to Variety, telling the outlet that he believes the case will go to trial.

"We're looking forward to it," he told reporters outside the courtroom, per Variety.

Lively has accused Baldoni of sexual harassment on the set of the Colleen Hoover adaptation, alleging he engaged in inappropriate workplace behavior, then helped orchestrate an elaborate online smear campaign against her to prevent her from speaking out.

Actor Blake Lively arrives for a settlement conference at the United States District Court in New York City, Feb. 11, 2026.

'It Ends with Us' was supposed to be a BookTok Hollywood success story. What went wrong?

Baldoni has denied those allegations and brought his own since-dismissed lawsuit against Lively and The New York Times, which published an early account of the actress' accusations. Baldoni has accused Lively of hijacking the film, which he directed, produced and starred in, and leveraging her fame and influence to intimidate him.

Lively's web of famous friends, including husband Ryan Reynolds and close companion Taylor Swift, have been ensnared in the controversy, their communications and names referenced multiple times in court documents.

Actor Justin Baldoni and his wife Emily Baldoni arrive for a settlement conference at the United States District Court in New York City, Feb. 11, 2026.

Lively and Baldoni are expected to continue mediation after spending six hours in a New York courtroom Feb. 11, a key part of the process as they barrel toward their May 18 trial date.

Lively and Baldoni were both caught by cameras entering the courtroom Wednesday, though neither stopped to offer any comment. Their court looks were eerily similar in color: Baldoni wore an olive green pea coat over a simple gray T-shirt with a dusty pink scarf, holding hands with wife, Emily, who was dressed in similar neutrals.

Lively, coincidentally, wore a near-matching outfit to her former costar, pairing a pink and white candy-striped button-down with another green button-down, an oversized olive green-gray suit jacket with matching trousers and a slouchy green bag. Her signature honey-blonde locks were curled at the ends.

PEOPLE has the exclusive first trailer for the comedy, based on Kargman's viral New York City mom character Dzanielle

Gwyneth Paltrow, Matt Damon, Drew Barrymore, Jason Biggs and more appear in the trailer

Jill Kargman's Dzanielle is taking her wealthy mom-fluencer lifestyle to the big screen.

The fictional Upper East Side mom that actress-author Kargman, 51, created during the pandemic to poke fun at social media influencers takes center stage in Influenced, out this spring.

As its trailer, shared exclusively with PEOPLE, shows, Kargman and director Rachel Israel pulled in some big names to populate Dzanielle's posh life.

The character appears to be friends — or at least in proximity — with Gwyneth Paltrow, Matt Damon, Drew Barrymore and more. (Barrymore used to be Kargman's sister-in-law, married to Kargman's brother Will Kopelman from 2012 to 2016.)

"I'm gonna get to a mil if it kills me," Kargman can be heard saying as Dzanielle, referring to a million social media followers.

The hilarious trailer shows glimpses of Dzanielle's glamorous online life and kooky offline life. "It's time to use my platform for good," she says. "So, I decided to become the Mr. Rogers of East 74th Street."

Influenced, co-written by Kargman, Carol Hartsell and Sean Crespo, features a supporting cast of comedy pros: Eugene Cordero, Laura Bell Bundy, Nathan Lee Graham, Justin Bartha, Christine Taylor, Jessica Capshaw, Jason Biggs and David Krumholtz.

"Like my show Odd Mom Out, Influenced is set in the Black card–swiping, Ozempic-sharting, workout-addicted Upper East Side," says Kargman in a statement.

"In her comedic quest, the momfluencer protagonist Dzanielle is chasing a million followers, but instead wins a happier life, weeding the friendship garden of fake women, making her first real friend and, ultimately, finding herself."

Following its world premiere at the Miami Jewish Film Festival in January, Influenced is coming soon to theaters this spring.

Being an underdog before joining the NBA is why Curry connected to the new animated movie GOAT, which he produces and stars in

GOAT is in theaters Friday, Feb. 13

Stephen Curry knows how it feels to be the underdog.

A four-time NBA champion, two-time MVP and Olympic gold medalist, Curry, 37, tells PEOPLE in this week's issue that before joining the Golden State Warriors as a point guard in 2009 he was constantly underestimated.

"I was physically a late bloomer, undersized," says Curry, now 6-foot-2. "When I walked into a gym, I didn't pass the eye test." Being underrated — which is also the title of a 2023 documentary about the basketball player — has "always been part of my story."

The son of former basketball player Dell Curry, the Warriors point guard was widely expected not to make it to the NBA. It is why his first professional basketball game remains his most cherished memory.

"I will never forget my first game day — my first regular-season game — and all of the nerves and jitters I had," he says. "Because in that moment, you're realizing a dream."

It is also why Curry connected so deeply to the new animated movie GOAT, which he produced. In the film, he lends his voice to a giraffe "roarball" player named Lenny.

The star-studded cast also includes Caleb McLaughlin, Gabrielle Union, Nicola Coughlan, Nick Kroll, David Harbour, Jenifer Lewis, Aaron Pierre, Patton Oswalt, Sherry Cola, Jelly Roll and Jennifer Hudson.

"The movie is inspired by that underdog mentality that I've had my entire life," he says about GOAT, which follows the story of a small goat, Will, who gets a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play professional roarball and revolutionize the game.

"The idea of dreaming big, even when critics and doubters are around you — I still carry that mentality and want to prove myself every time I step on the court," he says.

GOAT - Lenny Williamson (voiced by Stephen Curry)

Sony Pictures Animation

Curry stars in the film alongside his wife, actress and entrepreneur Ayesha Curry, with whom he shares four children: Riley, 13, Ryan, 10, Canon, 7 and 21-month-old Caius.

Ayesha, 36, voices Carol, a goat who serves as a maternal figure to Will, making the project even more special for the family.

"Me and Ayesha [as] parents, we love finding entertaining, uplifting stories for our kids but also something that we can enjoy ourselves," Curry says.

The star, who says he "sees a lot of [himself] in Will," says the film is something everyone can relate to, whether they are an NBA athlete or not.

"It's not just for sports, it's not just for basketball," he says of the underdog mindset. "It's a mentality I think most people have found themselves in at one point or another — something we can all tap into."

GOAT is in theaters Feb. 13.

Love Story follows the real-life romance of John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette

Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette is gearing up to captivate audiences with some real-life political romance.

The first installment of Ryan Murphy's Love Story anthology tells the dramatized story of the whirlwind romance between John F. Kennedy Jr. (Paul Anthony Kelly) — who was President John F. Kennedy and first lady Jackie Kennedy's son — and Carolyn Bessette (Sarah Pidgeon).

The trailer, which was released on Feb. 2, shows what the series will include — from their first meeting to the frenzy of press surrounding them. The nine-episode series was inspired from Elizabeth Beller's book Once Upon a Time: The Captivating Life of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy and also features Grace Gummer, Naomi Watts, Alessandro Nivola, Leila George, Sydney Lemmon and Constance Zimmer.

"John and Carolyn's connection was immediate, electric and undeniable," the show's description reads. "As their love story unfolded on a national stage, the intense fame and media attention that came along with it threatened to rip them apart."

The limited series premieres on FX and Hulu on Feb. 12 at 9 p.m. ET and includes the next two episodes, as well. From there, new episodes will hit the streamer every Thursday at 9 p.m. ET until the ninth and final episode on March 26.

Afterward, one new episode will be available to watch every Thursday until the season finale on March 26.

Among other aspects, the first few episodes will introduce both Bessette — an independent career-driven employee at Calvin Klein — and JFK Jr. — one of the biggest heartthrobs and political figures of the 1990s.

The trailer depicts how the powerful individuals met through her work and quickly fell in love. As their romance heats up, they're also faced with scrutiny from both his political family and the media. At one point, Bessette comes to terms with the reality of being a Kennedy.

"It's not a question of if I want to spend the rest of my life with you," she tells JFK Jr. "It's a question of if I'm cut out to be Mrs. JFK Jr."

Bessette and JFK Jr. ultimately married in September 1996 and remained together until their deaths on July 16, 1999. The couple died after a plane JFK Jr. was piloting crashed off the coast of Martha's Vineyard.

Nicole Curtis, the star and producer behind the HGTV show "Rehab Addict" has been removed from all HGTV platforms, according to the network.

The move to remove Curtis from the network comes after HGTV was made aware of "an offensive racial comment made during the filming of Rehab Addict," a statement from HGTV sent to the Free Press on Wednesday, Feb. 11 said.

"Not only is language like this hurtful and disappointing to our viewers, partners, and employees — it does not align with the values of HGTV," the statement said.

In a video released by Radar Online on Wednesday, Curtis says "Oh fart n-----." After saying that, she immediately says, "What the f--- is that that I just said? Nick, you gotta, can you kill that?" According to an anonymous source in the Radar article, the video was taken on set while recording the show about two years ago.

HGTV has removed "Rehab Addict" from all platforms, according to the statement. HGTV did not immediately respond to a follow up question about if the show is still on streaming platforms. It no longer appears on HBO Max as of Wednesday night.

"We remain dedicated to fostering a culture of respect and inclusion across our content and our workplace," according to the statement.

In an Instagram story on Wednesday evening, Curtis wrote:

"There is more to this, but my family comes first and I need to be mom right now more than anything else. I will take the time to be as I've always been with you, transparent and honest. TMZ called me as I had just turned my phone on after being at school — I said this briefly — but there is more."

In the next story, she posted what appears to be a text message she sent to TMZ.

"Regarding HGTV, I'm grateful for the 15-year journey we've shared," according to a text screenshot shared in her Instagram story. "It's been a meaningful chapter, but my focus isn't on my career.

"My focus, at this moment is rightfully on my relationships, and my community — the people who truly know my character and where my heart is. I want to be clear: the word in question is wrong and not part of my vocabulary and never has been, and l apologize to everyone.

"As discussed, I'm a mom and I was doing mom things all day and unplugged. I realize my shows were airing, but my family is my priority and I'm just catching up to all this now."
