Charlie Sheen has a new book,The Book of Sheenand a Netflix documentary, aka Charlie Sheencoming out Sept. 9 and 10, respectively The actor spoke with PEOPLE for a story in this week's print issue It's just me, finally telling the stories in the way they actually happened." the actor says. "The stories I can remember, anyway." On Sept. 3, Charlie Sheen turns 60—a milestone he wasn't sure he'd ever see. "I have more days behind me than in front of me, and that's fine," he says in this week's cover story forPeople, after abeach photo shoot in Malibu, not far from where he grew up. "But I'm feeling pretty good! Most guys my age, they usually have a bad back or knees. Somehow I dodged that." The former high school baseball pitcher, who stays fit on his rowing machine and does his best to eat healthily ("most of the time"), adds, "I just have a bad shoulder that I have to take Advil for." If it seems like life has slowed way (way!) down for the actor who spiraled into the depths of addiction in his 40s, faced countless tabloid scandals and endured two very public and ugly divorces, he says eight years of sobriety will do that to you. Cliff Watts These days, instead of benders with cocaine and call girls, he spends time meeting friends for coffee, visiting his parents and, until recently, wrapping up his debut memoirThe Book of Sheen(out Sept. 9) and the two-part Netflix documentaryaka Charlie Sheen(Sept. 10). Cliff Watts "It's not about me setting the record straight or righting all the wrongs of my past," Sheen says of releasing both projects at once — something he says just happened coincidentally. "Most of my 50s were spent apologizing to the people I hurt. I also didn't want to write from the place of being a victim. I wasn't, and I own everything I did. It's just me, finally telling the stories in the way they actually happened." He jokes, "The stories I can remember, anyway." Courtesy Charlie Sheen Sheen's memoir starts at the very beginning of his life, and covers his childhood, when he and his three siblings would tag along with dadMartin Sheenon the set of his movies, including spending months in the Philippines while he shotApocalypse Now. After high school, Sheen decided to join his dad and brother into the family business. A small role in 1986'sFerris Bueller's Day Offand bigger ones inPlatoonandWall Streetshot him to superstardom in just a few short years. But with success came the age-old trappings of fame: booze, and easy access to cocaine, fast cars and sex. SAMOHI Looking back, he thinks a lot of his early partying came from fear that the fame and money was all temporary. "There was always that voice of doubt, that it was only a matter of time before it all went away, so to enjoy it as heartily as you can," he says. In the documentary, hisTwo and a Half MencostarJon Cryernotes that he sensed Sheen never felt he deserved his success. "That was pretty insightful," Sheen says, adding that he personally asked everyone featured in the doc (including Cryer, his former bossChuck Lorre, his two ex-wives,Denise RichardsandBrooke Mueller, and even his former drug dealer Marco) to participate. Sami Sheen/instagram Unfortunately, as his success continued, so did his love of booze and drugs, and when he tried crack for the first time, he was hooked. The PEOPLE Puzzler crossword is here! How quickly can you solve it? Play now! He went to rehab several times, and knows it's a miracle that he only had one overdose and one close brush with death. "At my parties, I always said, 'Park your judgement at the door. No pain in the bedroom. And no one can die,'" he says. "Those were good rules." Sheen hit a new low when he was fired from his hit sitcomTwo and a Half Menin March 2011. He then gave his infamous20/20interview where he claimed to have "tiger blood" in his veins. (He explains in the memoir that on top of drugs, he got addicted to using a testosterone cream that made him a "raving lunatic.") In 2017, Sheen finally got clean for good, and he says now he had to be ready for sobriety. "You have to be willing," he says, noting that only you can save your own life. In his case, it was deciding he wanted to be the kind of dad his kids (Cassandra, 41, Sami, 21, Lola, 20, and twins Max and Bob, 16) could rely on. He hasn't had a drop of alcohol since. "I keep a [mental list] of the worst, most shameful things I've done, and I can look at that in my head if I feel like having a drink," he says. Cliff Watts As for drugs, he quit them before he got off the booze, and says he's not interested in going back. "Whether it's true or not, I like to think the next hit would kill me." While he's made amends with almost everyone from his past, forgiving himself for his actions has been harder. Take PEOPLE with you!Subscribe to PEOPLE magazineto get the latest details on celebrity news, exclusive royal updates, how-it-happened true crime stories and more — right to your mailbox. "Forgiveness is still an evolving thing," he says. "I still get what I call the 'shame shivers.' These are the moments that hit me, of the heinous memories and choices and consequences. They're getting farther in between, so I guess that's progress. What has been interesting about making amends is that most people have been like, 'Hey yeah, we're good man, but we hope you've also forgiven yourself.'" Gallery Books As for what's next? He'd love to return to acting, but says he's taking things one day at a time, instead of outwardly chasing anything. "I'm not calling all of this a comeback," he says of returning to the spotlight. "I'm calling it a reset. I'm just living for the next moment, whatever that turns out to be." Putin says Russia doesn't oppose Ukraine joining the EUNew Foto - Putin says Russia doesn't oppose Ukraine joining the EU

By Dmitry Antonov MOSCOW (Reuters) -Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday that Moscow had never opposed Ukraine's potential membership of the European Union, and that he thought it was possible to find a consensus on ensuring the security of both Russia and Ukraine. U.S. President Donald Trump said after his summit with Putin in Alaska last month that he thinks Putin is "tired" of the war in Ukraine but that it remains to be seen if peace can be secured to end Europe's deadliest conflict since World War Two. Ukraine and the leaders of Western European powers have said they do not believe Putin is serious about peace in Ukraine, and have warned that if Russia wins the Ukraine war then Putin could attack Europe and the U.S.-led NATO military alliance. In some of his most dovish remarks since the Alaska summit, Putin, speaking in China, pushed back against those claims, which he cast as "horror stories" and "hysteria" pumped up by incompetent people seeking to cast Russia as an enemy. Putin said Russia had been forced to act in Ukraine by what he cast as the West's attempt with the help of NATO to try to absorb the entire post-Soviet space. "As for Ukraine's membership of the EU, we have never objected to this," Putin told Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico at talks in China. "As for NATO, this is another issue... Our position here is well known: we consider this unacceptable for ourselves." A potential security guarantee for Ukraine - backed by the United States and Western European powers - is one of the toughest parts of any future peace settlement, according to diplomats and officials involved in discussions. Ukraine says that it is not for Russia to decide what Kyiv can or cannot join, while NATO says that Russia can have no veto over membership of the alliance which was formed in 1949 to counter the threat from the Soviet Union. Putin said that he had discussed Ukraine's security at his August 15 summit with Trump. "There are options for ensuring Ukraine's security in the event of an end to the conflict," Putin said. "And it seems to me that there is an opportunity to find consensus here." Russia, Putin said, was ready to cooperate with the United States at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, Europe's largest nuclear plant. Russia took control of it in March 2022, shortly after its invasion of Ukraine. "We can cooperate with American partners at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant," Putin said, adding that the issue had been discussed indirectly with Washington and that he was even prepared to work with Ukraine at the plant. When will Pope Leo make Carlo Acutis the first saint of the millennial generation?New Foto - When will Pope Leo make Carlo Acutis the first saint of the millennial generation?

Pope Leo willcanonize Blessed Carlo Acutison Sunday, Sept. 7 - the first such ceremony of his tenure and the first Catholic saint of the millennial generation - elevating him to the same level asMother Teresa and Francis of Assisi. Acutis, a British-born Italian who died from leukemia in 2006 at the age of 15, was initially set to be canonized in April, but theceremony was suspendedafter the death ofPope Francis. His mother,Antonia Salzano, told Reutersin April that the heart of her son's appeal was that he lived the same life as others who were teenagers in the 2000s. "Carlo was an ordinary child like (others)," she said. "He used to play, to have friends, and to go to school. But his extraordinary quality was the fact that he opened the door of his heart to Jesus and put Jesus in first place in his life." The canonization of Carlo Acutis is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 7, at 10 a.m. local time in St. Peter's Square in Rome. While access to St. Peter's Square opens at 8:00 a.m., no tickets or reservations are required for general public access, according to the Vatican. During the ceremony, the Pontiff will also canonize Pier Giorgio Frassati, a young Italian man who was known for helping those in need and died of polio in the 1920s. Born in 1991, Acutis, who learned several computer coding languages and developed websites for his parish and the wider Catholic Church, died from leukemia at age 15 in 2006. Anyone born between 1981 and 1996 is considered to be a millennial, according to the Pew Research Center. Acutis' beatification took place in 2020, when Pope Francis declared the teen had attained the blessedness of heaven, and he was given the title of "Blessed." Sainthood causes are examined by a Vatican department that must confirm that a potential saint lived a holy life, and usually also involves the verification of two miracles attributed to the future saint's intercession with God in Heaven. Acutis is credited with the healing of a 4-year-old Brazilian boy with a serious pancreatic malformation and of a 21-year-old Costa Rican woman who was near death after a bicycle accident. The parents of both individuals had prayed to Acutis for help, according to the Vatican. Saints are persons in heaven who did one of the following, according to theUnited States Conference of Catholic Bishops: Lived heroically virtuous lives. Offered their life to others. Died for their faith. Reuters contributed to the reporting of this story. This article originally appeared on USA TODAY:When will Carlo Acutis, the first millennial saint, be canonized?

3 Sydney dockworkers charged over massive cocaine shipmentNew Foto - 3 Sydney dockworkers charged over massive cocaine shipment

SYDNEY (AP) — Three Sydney dockworkers have been charged over a massive shipment ofcocainein a law enforcement investigation into trusted insiders importing illicit drugs into Australia, authorities said on Tuesday. The three, aged 25, 38 and 42, appeared in a Sydney court on Monday charged over 506 kilograms (1,116 pounds) of cocaine found hidden behind a false wall in a shipping container on the Sydney waterfront on the weekend, Australian Federal Police said in a statement. The cocaine had a street value of more than 164 million Australian dollars ($107 million). The older two men were forklift drivers employed by a global shipping and logistics company that authorities have not named. Police also found AU$330,000 ($216,240) cash which they allege is the proceeds of crime. All three face potential life sentences if convicted. The 42-year-old man was released on bail but the others were remanded in custody. They will all appear in court next on Oct. 29. The shipping container was sent from Europe, but the source of the cocaine remained under investigation, according to police. The men were arrested by the Multi Agency Strike Team. The team is made up of state and federal agencies who target "trusted insiders" within supply chains that allow organized crime groups to smuggle illicit drugs into Australia.
