Calla Lily tells PEOPLE the show pushed her "out of my comfort zone" and "was really great" for her mental health amid her stage 4 cancer journey

The Masked Singer's Calla Lily has been unmasked!

At the end of the Wednesday, Feb. 4, episode of the show, Calla Lily was revealed to be John Mellencamp's daughter Teddi Mellencamp, just as judge Jenny McCarthy had guessed.

"She's a big Housewives fan, so I had a feeling [she'd get it]," Teddi, who starred on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills from 2017-2020, tells PEOPLE.

Teddi says her kids Slate, 12, Cruz, 11, and Dove, 5, whom she shares with estranged husband Edwin Arroyave, also guessed that she was Calla Lily the moment they saw her first performance of Rachel Platten's 2015 "Fight Song," a track that's resonated with her deeply amid her stage 4 cancer journey.

"I kept it a secret, but the second they watched the first episode, they knew it was me," Teddi says. "I was like, 'What do you mean?' And they were like, 'Mom, we know. We're doing the car singing.'"

Prior to her unmasking on the show, Teddi sang her dad John's 1982 hit "Jack & Diane" for her second performance.

"I think oftentimes people want to say I'm walking in my dad's shadow or whatever these things people have said in the past on The Housewives," Teddi says. "I have always been so proud of my dad. So, being able to sing his song and go out there and have fun, and be able to get advice from him prior, it was just a bonding experience — one that I wouldn't normally be able to get to do."

As for the advice her dad gave her, Teddi says he kept it simple: "Sing loud and proud — and if you don't hit the key, don't worry about it."

Throughout her cancer journey, Teddi says her dad has been "really there for me."

"He's consistent," she says. "Every day since I've been in the hospital, he's called me. Even on the days that I don't want to answer the phone, even on the days that I feel like I can't do anything, I know that he's going to call and I have the choice to answer or not. But either way, he's been so uplifting. He's like, 'You can do this and you're a fighter.' He likes to say, 'You're a Mellencamp. Mellencamps can to do anything.'"

Teddi's cancer journey began in 2022 with stage 2 melanoma — the deadliest form of skin cancer — on her back. She has since undergone 17 surgeries for the invasive skin cancer. In April 2025, Teddi shared that her cancer had metastasized to her brain and lungs, causing her to undergo surgery along with ongoing immunutherapy.

Teddi says getting the opportunity to do The Masked Singer was absolutely a bright spot after all she'd been through.

"Of course I wanted to do it," she says. "I also wanted to push myself out of my comfort zone. People oftentimes talk about the physical struggles that you have when you go through stage 4 cancer. But, for me, a lot of it has been the mental struggle. So getting out there and doing something new and trying something new was really great for me."

Teddi also credits the crew for making her feel "safe" throughout filming.

"Everybody was so kind and so nice," she says. "A big part of coming out of trauma is feeling safe and there wasn't a moment that I wasn't like, 'Okay, this person has my back.' From walking up the stairs in a mask to coming down, I felt completely safe the entire time, and I'm so grateful to them for that because that was the first big thing I did once I got back and they really took care of me."

The Masked Singer airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET. on Fox and is available to stream on Hulu and on Disney+ with the Hulu on Disney+ bundle.
