- *Yellowstone* creator Taylor Sheridan has secured a major deal with NBCUniversal after years spent developing hit shows for Paramount. ****
- His TV contract at Paramount expires in late 2028, meaning he'll remain at the studio for several more years.**
- *Landman *co-creator Christian Wallace remains optimistic about the show's future.
Taylor Sheridan is one of the driving forces behind Paramount's current TV slate, having had a hand in ratings hits such as *Yellowstone*, *1923*, *Mayor of Kingstown*, and *Tulsa King*, among others. And the prolific writer, director, and producer has more on the way, from the soon-to-premiere *Y: Marshals* to the long-gestating *Yellowstone* spinoffs *Dutton Ranch *and* The Madison. *
The collaboration has been mutually beneficial, but in October 2025, * *reported that Sheridan is leaving Paramount for NBCUniversal. His impending departure raises some questions about the future of his Paramount projects, including *Landman*, now returning for its second season.
Here's everything we currently know about Sheridan's new deal and the future of his Paramount properties.
What does Taylor Sheridan's deal with NBCUniversal entail?

Sheridan's deal with NBCUniversal supports the development of film, TV, and streaming projects. Multiple outlets, including *Deadline* and *TheWrap*, report that the deal is valued at around $1 billion.
Sheridan's film deal reportedly begins in 2026 and runs for eight years. His five-year TV deal, however, won't begin until his Paramount contract wraps at the end of 2028. It's been reported that he plans to deliver a whopping 20 new shows for NBC and Peacock.
What happens to Taylor Sheridan's Paramount shows after his exit?

First off, Sheridan won't begin creating shows for NBCUniversal until 2029, meaning he's got more than three years left at Paramount. That leaves him plenty of time to create new projects, develop nascent ones, and contribute to existing hits.
The properties he created for Paramount will remain at Paramount, as the studio owns the rights. So, should* Tulsa King* and *Mayor of Kingstown* still be going strong in 2029, they'll continue pumping out new seasons.

Also, it's worth noting that Sheridan hasn't been as intimately involved with some of his newer shows as he was with *Yellowstone* and its spinoffs. While he remains engaged as a producer, he hasn't written or directed an episode of *Tulsa King* since 2022 or of *Mayor of Kingstown* since 2023.
As EW previously reported, Sheridan will be creating wholly new IP for NBCUniversal.**
What has the cast and crew of Landman said about the show's future?

At the *Landman *season 2 premiere, Billy Bob Thornton, who stars on the series as Tommy Norris, brushed off any concern that Sheridan's future move could derail the show.
"I think the shows that are at Paramount, stay at Paramount, so I don't think those are affected," he told *The Hollywood Reporter*. "His deal is for the future. And who knows what that holds. Taylor is a brilliant guy, and I'm sure wherever he goes, whatever he does is gonna be successful, at least I know it'll be real."
Sam Elliott, who joins season 2 as Tommy's father, T.L., echoed Thornton's sentiments. "It's not gonna impact the future of this series because everything that Taylor had at Paramount is gonna stay at Paramount. It's not like he's taking it there," the Oscar-nominated actor said. "The Universal thing, as I understand, it's a whole new deal, so it's just great for Taylor's world. I think it's fantastic."

*Landman* actor Mark Collie also discussed Sheridan's eventual exit from Paramount. "I think it's just going to keep on rocking, man," he recently told ScreenRant. "Taylor's telling this story up to here. I think he'll be involved at some level and whatever level that is, it's going to take this show to the next level."
Showrunner Christian Wallace, who co-created *Landman* with Sheridan, said the series has plenty of room to grow beyond its first two seasons. Even with Sheridan's exit looming, Wallace asserted that their approach hasn't changed at all.
"We still have a lot of runway," he told ScreenRant. "That contract is not ending anytime soon, and so we're just going to keep doing exactly what we've been doing. Nothing at all has changed, so that's for a future person to worry about."
Wallace continued, "The thing about this show is there are so many ways that this can go, and the world is so vast and big. It's full of stories, and so far we're two seasons in and we've barely skimmed the surface of what we can do and what we want to do. So I just think that there's a lot of runway left, and as long as there's a story to tell and people are there for it, I hope we get to keep telling it."
