The host tried to ask the actress about her relationship with singer Dan Reynolds, but Kelly seemed both reluctant to talk about Reynolds and surprised by the question
Kelly did offer a brief reflection on her three-year relationship, though, saying that Reynolds is "a really good guy"
Things got awkward on the Today show when Jenna Bush Hager tried to ask Minka Kelly about her relationship.
The actress stopped by Today with Jenna & Friends, which Olivia Munn was co-hosting with Bush Hager, on Tuesday, Nov. 18 to promote her new Netflix holiday movie, Champagne Problems. After discussing the movie, Bush Hager tried to segue into a conversation about Kelly's boyfriend, Imagine Dragons frontman Dan Reynolds, but things took a weird turn.
"Speaking about the holidays and love and this romcom, you have a very big love in your life right now," Bush Hager, 43, said, as she stumbled somewhat over her words. "Talk about your relationship — if you feel comfortable."
Kelly, 45, appeared uncomfortable — or at least taken aback — at the awkward topic change, but the morning show host continued, "I think you posted this birthday message saying he healed wounds he didn't inflict. That's beautiful."

"Yeah. It is beautiful," the Ransom Canyon star agreed. "I feel very lucky, he's a really good guy."
Bush Hager then got the message. "Okay, sounds like you don't want to talk about it, that's fine," she said. "I was like, I guess we don't straight then go to the video of him."
Munn, 45, then jumped in to share a story about Reynolds, 38, with whom she worked with in the past. "I'll say this — I love Dan. I did his music video, it was the first thing I did after COVID," she said, referring to the 2021 video for "Cutthroat."
"I was actually pregnant, and no one had known yet," Munn continued. "But, anyways, he was so kind, I love the whole band, and I'm really happy for you."

Kelly was in agreement, and said her boyfriend is "the best," as is his whole band. "They're all the best. And I think there's something sort of similar to the movie, in the theme of love sort of hits you when least expect it," she offered.
The Friday Night Lights star has been dating Reynolds since 2022, and the pair connected after they were introduced by a mutual friend following Reynolds' divorce. They spoke on the phone for a month before they ever met in person, and Reynolds told PEOPLE about the "really strange and awesome way" they bonded.
He was working on Imagine Dragons' sixth studio album, Loom, and would send Kelly music he was writing. She then returned the favor, sharing snippets from her memoir, Tell Me Everything.

"She was very scared for me to read the book because we hadn't met, just as much as I was scared for her to hear a song that I'd written. But we shared it and then it ended up being a really beautiful thing and brought us a lot closer," Reynolds said. "I think it helped us both kind of understand each other on a deeper level quite quickly."
"I've never had that kind of introduction to someone," the singer said, as he recalled "hearing all her life stories from youth to now" before he'd even met her in person.
Earlier this year, Reynolds stepped into Kelly's world while making a cameo in Ransom Canyon, which Kelly told PEOPLE came about after "he came to visit [the set] and everyone, all the producers and writers, just naturally fell in love with him, like you do."
"It's easy to love Dan," Kelly said. "He was such a good sport."
