Lucien Laviscount is teasing Emily in Paris fans about whether a rekindled romance lies ahead for Alfie and Emily Cooper in season 5.

The star, 33, tells PEOPLE that love is in the air "for everyone" on the Netflix series' upcoming fifth season, arriving Dec. 18. When it comes to his own character, he says viewers can expect to see Alfie in a new light.

"I think this season we see a little bit of a different side of Alfie — I think more of an adventurous [side], I'll put it that way," he says.

"Alfie's out there," he adds. "You know, I just want to tell you! I'm holding back. It's crazy."

As for whether Alfie's new adventurous streak could lead him back to Emily (Lily Collins), Laviscount tells PEOPLE, "I think anything's possible, of course. It's like in real relationships in real life. You kind of look back, and you can either romanticize past relationships or you can just call them the devil and be done with it. But I think there's always a kind of scope in the Emily in Paris universe for anything to happen."

He adds, "I wouldn't write them off."

The actor — who recently partnered with cat food brand SHEBA to promote 4AM Stories, an AI-bedtime story generator that turns cats into the stars of tales inspired by literary classics — joined the series in season 2 as a fellow student in Emily's French class. The pair later began a romance that has been on-and-off ever since.

While season 4 opened with their future uncertain, Alfie ultimately moved on with a new girlfriend, only to find himself single by the finale. Emily, meanwhile, ended her romance with neighbor Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) and fell for a new Roman suitor, Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini).

Laviscount previously told PEOPLE that season 5 delivers some unexpected turns. Viewers should "strap in," he said, "because it goes left, so far left, and a little bit right this season." He added, "I didn't know what to expect — none of us do before we get the scripts — and we got the scripts for this season, and it's... Yeah, I don't think anyone could have foreseen that coming."

According to Netflix's synopsis, season 5 picks up with Emily heading Agence Grateau's Rome office after a shocking decision in the season 4 finale. The Chicagoan soon faces "professional and romantic challenges as she adapts to life in a new city."

Just when things start to look up, "a work idea backfires, and the fallout cascades into heartbreak and career setbacks." Seeking stability, "Emily leans into her French lifestyle, until a big secret threatens one of her closest relationships," per the streamer. Ultimately, "Emily emerges with deeper connections, renewed clarity, and a readiness to embrace new possibilities."

Emily in Paris season 5 premieres Dec. 18 on Netflix.
