Pamela Anderson spoke about her Finnish heritage in a new interview.

She revealed she'd like to change her name to Pamela Hyytiäinen to reflect her grandfather's name.

"I would like to change my name, but they won't let me," she said.

Pamela Anderson—it's safe to say, it's a name that pretty much everyone knows. However, as it turns out, Anderson herself isn't too fond of it.

Speaking to Vogue Scandinavia, the Last Showgirl actress explained that the name doesn't always feel like it represents who she truly is. "Sometimes I don't want to be Pamela Anderson," she said. "I want to be Pamela Hyytiäinen."

She added, "I would like to change my name, but they won't let me."

Hyytiäinen, she explained, comes from her Finnish grandfather, Herman Hyytiäinen, who was originally from Saarijärviname in Finland. Over the years, she's developed a real sense of connection to those roots. "He was the closest person to me in my life," she said of her grandfather.

For Anderson, changing her name would be another way of trying to figure out who she really is. "My imagination has run wild with me over the years. I've been trying different people on for size," she said. "You have to peel it all back, many times, and start over and over again."

It's easy to see why Anderson might feel more connected to her grandfather, a logger and a poet, than her larger-than-life Hollywood persona. After shooting to fame thanks to her sex symbol role in Baywatch, Anderson fell out of favor for several years. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, she said. "I don't know if I kept going, I went home to my garden to make pickles and jams." She's also made a point of embracing a makeup-free look to feel more like herself.

In fact, while Anderson is thrilled to be back in Hollywood with roles in films like The Last Showgirl and The Naked Gun, she does seem to be her happiest in nature. Just take her recent marketing videos for her skincare brand that see her lounging around barefoot in the garden.
