Jelly Roll shared a video of himself going for a run on the morning of his 41st birthday

The singer said he "used to drink and do cocaine" on his birthday; instead, he's "getting these miles in"

The country star started prioritizing his health in 2022 and has since dropped 200 lbs.

Jelly Roll is celebrating his birthday with a healthy habit.

The country singer shared a video of himself and his friend, bowhunter Cameron Hanes, going for a run first thing in the morning on Dec. 4.

"It's my 41st birthday, y'all. And I'm not saying that because I want birthday presents," Jelly (real name: Jason DeFord) said while running in the Instagram video. "I'm saying that because I used to drink and do cocaine on my birthday. I used to do codeine and pills on my birthday."

"Now on my birthday, one of my best friends wakes me up and says, let's go for a f------ run, baby. Me and Cam Hanes getting these miles in this morning," Jelly Roll said. "That's what God can do for you in a couple of years, baby. That's what God can do. If you didn't enjoy your birthday this year, you can change it by next birthday, baby. I promise you can."

As Hanes shared in his own post, the two were "crushing a 5K" first thing in the morning. Jelly said again in Hanes' video, "I used to do drugs on my birthday, y'all. I changed my friend group. Now I run."

Hanes added, "He's made me better, too. That's what it's all about. Get friends that lift you up, baby."

The "I am Not Okay" singer has been vocal about his past struggles with addiction, sharing that he was first arrested on drug charges at age 14. "I've made a lot of peace with my past. I mean, it still haunts me like the ghosts I know, but I tell you what, I don't think about doing no drugs today," he told PEOPLE in 2023.

Jelly — who once weighed 550 lbs. and has lost nearly 200 lbs. since 2022 — credits a healthy diet and exercise for his dramatic slimdown. He developed an interest in running and completed his first 5K in 2024. Earlier this year, he launched the "Losers Run Club" while training for his second 5K race.

In December 2024, he said, "I wanna be on the cover of Men's Health by March of 2026," during an appearance on wife Bunnie Xo's Dumb Blonde podcast, noting that it was the first time he ever publicly shared that aspiration. "That's my new goal. I wanna have one of the biggest transformations."
