And when they close for good, like so many favorites have over the past few years, it's like losing a member of the family. That's why fans of one popular Tex-Mex restaurant are feeling a little melancholy after learning that the last location of theirfavorite eateryhas officially closed its doors. 🍳SIGN UP to get delicious recipes, handy kitchen hacks & fun food news in our daily Pop Kitchen newsletter🍳 Z'Tejas, a Tex-Mex chain that had been in business since 1989, closed the doors on its last remaining location in Kyle, Texas on June 30. The restaurants were focused in Texas and Arizona, and had developed quite the following over their lengthy run. "After nearly three decades of serving communities across Texas and Arizona, it's time to say goodbye to this chapter," they said in a statement on the Z'Tejas website. "With our lease coming to an end and the challenges of today's market, we've made the very difficult decision to close Z'TeZ'Tejase—our last remaining outpost." Management went on to thank their patrons for being so loyal over the years. "We are deeply grateful to our guests, neighbors and friends for your support, your stories and for making Z'Tejas a part of your lives," they wrote. "It's been our honor to serve you." At the beginning of 2025, the chain still had four locations in operation, with the Kyle spot the final one to shutter. "So sad," said a Z'Tejas customer onReddit. "Our family loved the restaurant during that period and always took family and friends there when they were visiting." Another Redditor echoed that sentiment. "Well this is sad news," they wrote. "I have been going to that place for years."
