In a post published onReddit, the anonymous 28-year-old writes, "I and my husband just set up a nursery for our first baby, due next month." "We don't have a guest room, so when people visit they either stay at a hotel or we set up an air mattress in the living room," she adds. "His mom asked if she could come visit next weekend. I said sure but when I reminded her she'd be on the air mattress, she seemed offended." The post continues: "She texted me: 'Can't I just stay in the baby's room? He's not even here yet.' " "I told her no, because it's fully set up, and I want it to stay clean and ready plus it feels weird having someone sleeping in there," she writes. "She got snippy, saying I was being uptight and treating her like an outsider. My husband is trying to stay out of it but says 'maybe we could've let her.' " Adding that she doesn't feel comfortable, now the woman wants to know if she was overreacting. But many other moms on Reddit say the poster is indeed overreacting and should cut her mother-in-law some slack. Writes one commenter: "I don't see how an air mattress and her suitcase are going to mess up the nursery. Once she's gone, so are those things. Where do you expect her to [change] clothes? Talk on the phone? Have a little downtime? Your baby will more than likely spend the first few months in your room, and it will be several more months after that before that baby can 'play' with whatever items you have for them." "The nursery will barely be used for anything but sleeping, diaper changing until your baby is closer to 3 years of age," the commenter adds. "Your living room, on the other hand, will look like a ransacked baby store. Sounds like there may be others issues you have with MIL and you're using this as an excuse to take a jab at her."
