And now the star, 72, has claimed he single handedly saved the show from tanking after one season thanks to his performance on the Berlin Wall. The beloved series first premiered in 1989 on NBC, but it was axed due to low ratings and high production costs. However, after Hasselhoff proved popular in Germany with his hit track Looking for Freedom, the show started to enjoy success through syndication after the rights were purchased for just $10.
