Chrissy Metz is sharing some unforeseen benefits she has experienced while taking a GLP-1 medication.

Metz, 46, told Entertainment Tonight that the medication helped her mobility during her recent time on stage as Angélique in & Juliet on Broadway.

“Well, I think honestly being able to run around a stage eight shows a week was like really amazing,” she told the outlet at the Oct. 20 premiere of Apple TV’s Nocturne. “And the inflammation, that was really minimized.”

She noted that this was “really helpful” with her perimenopause symptoms.

“I got knee issues,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “Like there’s things going on. And I think just also the mental capacity to have other things to think about than obsessing about the food noise and all that.”

GLP-1s are a group of medications that were initially developed to “help people with type 2 diabetes control their blood sugar levels,” according to the Mayo Clinic. “Recent studies of these medications further revealed that they had the potential to help with weight loss.”

Metz previously said she began prioritizing her health after a panic attack on her 30th birthday in 2010. She also told PEOPLE in August that she decided to try a GLP-1.

“I’m not getting any younger,” she said of her decision to try the medication. “I’m in perimenopause, and there were obesity issues within my family and with my father, and I felt like I’ve tried so many modalities, whether it was diets or therapy, and none of it really worked for me.”

Outside of her physical health, Metz recently shared with PEOPLE exclusively about a habit that helps her feel “grounded.”

“I love weight training, I feel strong,” she said. “I have to journal or meditate, even if it’s for five minutes. It really grounds me and sets the day up for me.”

She also pointed to singing as one of her favorite grounding activities.

“Just singing and not judging it and just enjoying it,” she added. “For real, health is mind, body, soul, spirit.”

Nocturne, which also stars Liev Schreiber and Zazie Beetz, debuts on Apple TV on Friday, Oct. 30.
