Nick Reiner, the son of Hollywood director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer-Reiner, is set to be arraigned in Los Angeles court on Wednesday on murder charges.
The 32-year-old screenwriter is accused of fatally stabbing his parents in December.
Los Angeles police confirmed Tuesday, Dec. 16, that the couple were found dead in the master bedroom of their Los Angeles home in the affluent Brentwood neighborhood. Authorities allege that Nick Reiner used a knife to kill his parents in "the early morning hours" of Sunday, Dec. 14, then "fled" the scene.
He now faces criminal charges for the fatal stabbings, and the Los Angeles district attorney has not ruled out the death penalty.

Nick Reiner arraignment time
Reiner's arraignment is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 7, at the Los Angeles Superior Court Stanley Mosk Courthouse at 8:30 a.m local time, per People magazine.
Nick Reiner faces multiple charges
Reiner is facing charges on two counts of first-degree murder with a special circumstance of multiple murders. He also faces a special allegation of using a dangerous and deadly weapon.
Rob, Michele Reiner death certificates released
Online records from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner viewed by USA TODAY listed the cause of death for both of the Reiners as "multiple sharp force injuries," and the manner of death was listed as homicide.
Rob and Michele Reiner cause of death: Couple's bodies returned to family
The medical examiner's office confirmed Dec. 19 that it completed its autopsies, establishing that the cause of the Reiners deaths was multiple sharp force injuries.
Following Nick Reiner's first court appearance in December, his lawyer, Alan Jackson, called the case a "devastating tragedy."
"Our hearts go out to the entire Reiner family," he said. "There are very, very complex and serious issues that are associated with this case.
"We ask that during this process, you allow the system to move forward in the way that it was designed to move forward, not with a rush to judgment, not with jumping to conclusions, but with restraint and with dignity and with the respect that this system and this process deserves and that the family deserves," he continued.
Rob Reiner's children speak out
Nick was one of three children shared by Reiner and his wife. In a statement shared with TMZ and People, the two remaining siblings, Jake and Romy, spoke out day after their parents' deaths.
"Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day," they said. "The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren't just our parents; they were our best friends.

Nick Reiner arrest details emerge
The LA district attorney's office confirmed that following the Dec. 14 killing, Nick was "arrested hours later that evening in Exposition Park." Video showed Reiner purchasing a drink at a gas station shortly before his arrest.
During his first court appearance, Reiner – who has been open about his yearslong battle with drug addiction, sometimes prompting bouts of violence – wore a blue suicide prevention vest.

DA not ruling out death penalty in Reiner case
If found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder, Reiner will face either "a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty," L.A. District Attorney Nathan Hochman told reporters.
Prosecutors are adding special circumstances – that multiple murders were committed and a "dangerous and deadly weapon" was used in the alleged crime – to the murder charges, which would enhance Reiner's sentence. Hochman explained, however, that "No decision at this point has been made with respect to the death penalty."
Rob Reiner's movies, TV legacy looms large
Reiner's fingerprints are impossible to scrub from the movie business, his warm and affable comedy forming the backbone of much-beloved classics like "The Princess Bride" and "When Harry Met Sally."
Born March 6, 1947, in the Bronx, New York, Reiner grew up in the entertainment business − his father was comedy legend Carl Reiner and his mother, Estelle, was an actress. He became famous in his own right for his portrayal of Michael "Meathead" Stivic on the groundbreaking sitcom "All in the Family," winning two Emmy Awards as Archie Bunker's son-in-law.
Though he had dozens of acting credits to his name, he transitioned to directing and created beloved films including "This Is Spinal Tap," "Stand by Me," "Misery," and "A Few Good Men."
