Gloria, 67, recalled that moment in this week's issue of PEOPLE — and the conversation they had about her coming out to the world. "I think she got a little confused, because, at the time that she came out to me, she was about to release her album," the "Conga" singer recalls. Adding, "And I told her, 'Listen, are you 100% sure this is how you feel? I'll get on that parade float with you. But in the meantime, why don't you put your music without any labels on it at all?'" Looking back, Estefan says she was trying to be both "mom" and "give her advice on the music side." "And I said, 'You have to be ready for that, because it's not going to be easy. And I will be by your side, 100%," she says. After the conversation Estefan — who was raised Catholic but believes that nobody should be told "who they have to love" — didn't see her daughter any differently: "She's Emily, and that was always the case." In November, Emily — who's working on the soundtrack for the upcoming musicalBasurawith Estefan — celebrated her eight-year anniversary with girlfriend Gemeny Hernandez in a sweet Instagram post. "Love is growing up. Love is watching the pigment in your hair fade, the wrinkles on your face form, the softness in your voice amplify. Almost 8 years beautiful. Te Amo 🌹," shecaptioned the post.
