England and Manchester City star Jack Grealish has been fined £666 for speeding at 44mph in a 30mph zone.

Grealish, who did not attend the four-minute hearing at Worcester Magistrates' Court, pleaded guilty to the offence through his barrister.

The 28-year-old, of Barnt Green, Worcestershire, was also ordered to pay £110 in court costs and a victim surcharge of £266, leaving him with a total bill of £1,042.

He was handed five penalty points.

The court was told Grealish was caught speeding by a mobile speed camera on Station Road, Wythall, while driving a Range Rover Sport on the morning of July 17, 2023.

A charge of failing to give information to the police relating to the identification of the driver was withdrawn.

Grealish's barrister, John Dye, said of his client: 'Mr Grealish means no discourtesy by not attending.

'I am instructed to enter a guilty plea on his behalf in relation to speeding.'

After confirming that the maximum penalty for the offence was £1,000, reduced to £666 after a guilty plea, Mr Dye told the court: 'He can afford to pay that figure.

'I am asked to apologise on his behalf. It was a mistake.'

The court was told Grealish had a full, clean driving licence at the time of the speeding offence.

Grealish was previously been fined £82,499 and banned from driving for nine months after he crashed his £80,000 Range Rover during the Covid-19 lockdown in March 2020.

During the trial, a judge was told that a witness said Grealish smelled of 'intoxicating liquor' and was slurring his words immediately after the crash on 29 March.

In a separate charge, the then-Aston Villa captain pleaded guilty to careless driving after an unmarked police car spotted him driving at more than 90mph along the M42 at 'close to an intimidating distance'.

The charge makes Grealish the latest in a long line of footballers who have found themselves in court for dangerous driving in recent months.

Leicester City star Hamza Choudhury was fined £20,000 after a court heard he was caught drink-driving on the wrong side of the road(Picture: PA)

In February, Leicester City footballer Hamza Choudhury was fined £20,000 for drink-driving on the wrong side of the road in his wife's Range Rover.

Aston Villa defender Lucas Digne, 30, was also accused of travelling at 70mph late at night in a temporary 50mph zone on the M6 in the West Midlands, but avoided charges after the case was dropped by prosecutors.

Last year Newcastle United forward Joelinton was fined £29,000 and banned from driving for 12 months, after he was pulled over by police and found to be over the legal limit.

And in 2021, former Manchester United footballer Chris Eagles was banned from driving and joined Alcoholics Anonymous after he was found drunk behind the wheel of his car.
