I have $46,000 in credit card debt after our habit 'evaporated' our money – an expert pointed out our 'frenetic' mistake | 397D2WB | 2024-05-08 17:08:02
A DAD-OF-FIVE has found himself drowning in $46,000 debt due to simple lifestyle choices that were nothing out of the ordinary.
However, financial guru Dave Ramsey pointed out that his chaotic family life had caused the debt to mount.

David from Atalanta, Georgia called into The Ramsey Show to get help with his huge credit card debt.
The 34-year-old dad-of-five was $46,000 in the red on a $80,000-a-year income.
"We're in a little bit of a tough spot right now," he admitted.
"We're living paycheck to paycheck."
David had only just begun to work on a budget with his wife.
Dave's co-host, George Kamel, said: "We've gotta find out where all this money's going. You guys make a decent income and it sounds like there's nothing at the end of the month.
"So we've got to figure out where these money leaks are in the budget, if this is going to eating out, if this is going to online shopping."
George's comments helped David figure out where he had been excessively spending.
"A lot of it was eating out," he admitted.
"We were eating out, the money was just evaporating."

But Dave had a bigger insight than that.
"You're 34, you've got five kids, you both work, y'all are running wide open all the time,' he said.
"Your lives are unbelievably busy. It's very hectic,
"And in the middle of hectic, you do two things. You become disorganized, which is never an efficient use of money, and two is, you buy a lot of things that are time-saving things.
"Eating out is a time-saver," he said.
</div> </div> "You're tired, you're exhausted, you're frenetic, you're going crazy."
Dave told David that he and his wife needed to put the kids to bed early and work seriously on their budget.
"When you start making this money behave, you're getting ahead of it instead of behind it," he said.
"Then, when you're tired and you get ready to buy something, you have to look at the budget and see if you've got the money."
David said budgeting effectively would make it feel like Dave had "got a raise" because the money would be working smarter.
