A DAD has been accused of killing his child son after he 'prioritised enjoying PlayStation over taking care of the toddler', a courtroom heard.

His father Michael Davis, 29, appeared in courtroom on trial after denying fees of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, inflicting or permitting a toddler to endure critical physical harm, and inflicting or allowing the demise of a kid and murder.

Ollie's mum Kayleigh Driver, 31, also of Carlisle Road, West Finish, Leicester, is on trial alongside him after denying the identical costs.

Prosecutor Jonas Hankin KC requested Davis on the witness stand if he was ready for fatherhood, after the jury have been informed the being pregnant had been unplanned.

Davis advised the courtroom: "I wouldn't say I wasn't prepared, however it wasn't a planned being pregnant."

Mr Hankin added: "Do you assume you had practical expectations concerning the amount of care and a spotlight a young baby needs?"

To which Davis stated that he did not.

The courtroom heard how Davis was employed at a Specsavers 5 days every week and taken care of Ollie via the night time, while Kayleigh slept.

The defendant also informed the jury much of his time was taken up with enjoying games akin to Fortnite, Grand Theft Auto and Assassin's Creed on his PlayStation 4.

He would play these videogames, as well as others on his cellular, and watch TV throughout the night time, the courtroom heard.

Mr Hankin advised Davis he was "taking each opportunity" to play his PlayStation, the jury heard.

Davis stated: "I might go on once I might, but that doesn't imply I prioritised it."

Mr Hankin stated: "You took the primary opportunity when your baby's asleep and your girlfriend's asleep to get on your Ps.

"That's your precedence, isn't it?"

Davis denied the allegation.

The prosecutor then asked if the dad discovered it "frustrating" when his baby would get up by way of the night time, which Davis also denied.

The courtroom heard from Mr Hankin that medical evidence advised the infant would have been distressed within the days main as much as his dying on account of "many bone fractures".

Medical proof said Ollie had 23 rib fractures and brain injury, which have been allegedly inflicted 10 days before he died in Upper Temple Stroll, Beaumont Leys, Leicester.

"We know that Ollie had, by this time, sustained many bone fractures, so if you have been dealing with him for feeding and altering he would have been crying, wouldn't he?" Mr Hankin questioned the defendant.

Davis advised jurors he only observed Ollie crying for food or when his nappy needed changing.

Nobody dwelling at the tackle where Ollie was injured, stated they observed any misery ahead of his dying.

The trial continues.
