Investigators in Costa Rica are looking for a woman suspected to be involved in the death of an American citizen.

The victim - identified only as "Fleming" - was found dead on September 27 at a condo near the beach in Playas de Coco, a popular seaside town on Costa Rica's northern Pacific coast. The 74-year-old victim had been seen entering the condo before the woman was seen leaving without him.

The Judicial Investigation Agency, which is the Costa Rican equivalent to the FBI, is now looking for the public's help to identify the woman seen leaving the condo without the victim.

Authorities found the body with head injuries likely caused by blunt objects, detectives say.

The woman has yet to be identified but she is being described as having: "a fair complexion, a slender build, and black hair, and stands approximately 1.60 meters tall.”

At the time of the alleged killing, she was wearing blue denim shorts, sandals, and a white bra with chain-like accessories. Investigators have said she later traveled towards San José, where they believe she lives.

They are looking into whether the man's credit cards were taken. Neighbors reported hearing screams coming from the house.

Local reports have described Fleming as a retired businessman who was living in Playas del Coco.

No arrests have yet been made but the woman is being considered a suspect.

She was seen in CCTV footage released by police walking down a street with another woman. Anyone with information about the incident is being asked by the Judicial Investigation Agency to contact 800-800-0645.

According to the US Embassy in Costa Rica crime is on the rise in the country.

A statement on their website reads: "Crime is increasing in Costa Rica and U.S. citizens are frequent victims. While petty theft is the main problem, armed robberies have been known to occur even in broad daylight. American tourists and residents can also take steps to protect themselves.

"Criminals often operate in small groups, but may also operate alone. While most crimes are non-violent, some criminals have shown a greater tendency in recent years to use violence."

Earlier this year, famous surfer Kurt Van Dyke was found murdered at an apartment in the coastal province of Cahuita Limon.

He was strangled and stabbed multiple times before his body was stuffed under a bed. There was a sheet over his face.

A woman was also in the apartment at the time but she survived the attack. Two suspects are believed to have broken into the apartment, police said. They stole the surfer's car, a Hyundai Elantra, in their getaway.
