A 25-year-old Minnesota man faces a first-degree intentional homicide charge after authorities found his father stabbed to death inside a northwestern Wisconsin cabin.

The victim, 56-year-old Allan Gregory Christopherson, had worked as a math teacher and championship-winning golf coach in the Wayzata Public Schools district for nearly 30 years. Deputies from the Washburn County Sheriff’s Office found his body on Sept. 26 in the basement laundry room of the family’s property near Spooner, Wisconsin.

According to multiple media reports, officers went to the cabin after a 911 caller asked for a welfare check. The caller reported that Christopherson was having issues with his son, who was acting strangely and was suspected of using drugs.

According to a criminal complaint, prosecutors charged Colton Douglas Christopherson, of St. Michael, Minnesota, with one count of first-degree intentional homicide.

The complaint states that during the encounter, a deputy asked Colton about his father’s whereabouts. Colton allegedly answered that his father was dead, telling the deputy, “I killed him.”

Investigators reported that Colton said his father had been dead for more than an hour and admitted to using a knife to kill him. Deputies arrested Colton at the scene and placed him in a squad car.
