Joe Manganiello has shared photos of himself in the hospital while suffering from an autoimmune condition.

The Magic Mike star wrote about his ordeal in his new book, Bloodlines.

The snapshots of the actor show his considerable weight loss during a stressful time.

Joe Manganiello is baring all.

On Thursday, the Magic Mike star shared photos of himself while he was hospitalized for a health scare that he writes about in his new memoir, Bloodlines. He wrote that he struggled with an unidentified autoimmune illness for seven years that brought him close to death.

The first photo shows him sitting up in a hospital room, with machines lit up behind him.

“In the days following the amputation of my large intestine, my weight began to plummet,” Manganiello wrote in the caption. “I would ultimately lose a total of 60 lbs during the two weeks following the surgery. If you zoom in, you can see the top of my first ostomy bag creeping over the sheets.”

Manganiello described the second image as “a shot of my abdomen after the reconnection/take down surgery of anastomosis, in which my ostomy bag was removed and what was left of my digestive tract was reconnected.”

The third photo was an up-close snapshot of his face with a rash.

“An example of the multitude of skin conditions I was plagued with during the seven years I was sick,” Manganiello wrote. “My skin, an immune organ, was stricken with just about every condition known to man, usually in combinations.”

The One Piece actor never found a diagnosis, but he told Entertainment Weekly this month that he’s feeling “better than ever.” His symptoms unexpectedly stopped three years ago.

“There are remnants from the surgeries and procedures that I have to live with, but I don’t complain about them because life is manageable,” Manganiello said. “I weathered that storm and came out of the other end, and I say it in the book, but life began again for me. So the answer is healthy, happy, peaceful — which is quite a difference from what I went through in the book.”

He’s relieved to have the era behind him.

“I’m proud that as difficult as it was — I would never choose to go through it again — the fact that I’m through it and on the other side of it does not escape me every single morning that I go outside and walk the dog,” Manganiello said. “I smell the grass, and I listen to the wind blowing through the leaves in the trees in my yard, and I wave hello to my neighbors and see them walking their dogs. I can’t believe I got through it. It was a hell of a first half of life, and I hope the second half is a little more peaceful.”

He said he shared his story in the hopes it could help others.

“I met people all the time while I was sick who were going through other forms of mystery illness, or they were in a coma, or they were in a car wreck, or even some people that were having certain types of relationships. I think the book speaks on a lot of different levels,” he said. “I thought that the things that I had gone through, if I could sort them out truthfully [and] honestly, then they could help a lot of people out.”

Bloodlines is available now at bookstores.
