
Girl, 10, Killed After Teen, 15, Allegedly Enters Middle School Disguised as Student and Stabs 8 Children in Knife Rampage

A 10-year-old girl was killed and seven other children were injured in a stabbing attack allegedly carried out by a 15-year-old girl at a school.
The incident occurred on the morning of Tuesday, Oct. 6, at a middle school in Istanbul, Turkey, according to a press release issued by Turkey’s Ministry of National Education.
The Ministry called the incident “deeply unsettling,” adding that both a “judicial and administrative investigation have been launched into the matter.”
According to Metro.uk and Euronews, the suspect, a 15-year-old female, attended a nearby high school and allegedly entered the premises dressed in the middle school’s uniform.
The teen allegedly began attacking students with a knife, ultimately injuring eight children between the ages of 10 and 13, per Metro.uk.
The injured children were rushed to a local hospital. One of the victims, 10-year-old Eslem Sare Bulut, died from her injuries, per Metro.uk and local outlet Yeni Safak.
The suspect has since been arrested, according to the Ministry of National Education.

The suspect’s parents have also been detained in connection with the incident, per Metro.uk and Yeni Safak.
The Istanbul Police and Ministry of National Education did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s requests for comment.

A funeral was held for the victim on Wednesday, Oct. 7. It was attended by family, local mourners and several local officials, per Metro.uk and local outlet Cumhuriyet — the latter of which shared footage of hundreds of people gathering to pray by the child’s coffin.
The Ministry of National Education has since provided “psychosocial support teams” for “students, teachers and parents affected by this heinous incident,” per the Ministry of National Education’s press release.
