Weasel, the senior Golden Retriever, is going viral on Instagram for doing “pawlates” with his mom. A Pilates instructor herself, Weasel’s mom has used Pilates to help transform this 15-year-old dog’s declining mobility.

According to this Instagram video, these Pilates exercises have actually helped Weasel regain a lot of his mobility, and he actually seems to enjoy doing these workouts with his loving human mama.

From stretching and reaching to stepping, pressing, and pulling, Weasel does it all during his Pilates workout with his human mama.

At 15 years of age, Weasel had lost much of his mobility. But his human mama decided to start doing Pilates workouts with him, and surely, but steadily, his mobility has improved.

This regular workout, which Weasel does each day, has helped him regain “almost all of this functionality,” according to his human mama.

His human mama would help him stretch and give him tasty treats to help motivate him to keep going during these workouts.

And of course, she also lets Weasel lie down on the Pilates mats and get some nice cuddles, pets, and scratches for being a good boy after completing his workout routine.

What Exercises Help Senior Dogs Stay Mobile?

There are a variety of exercises that are good for senior dogs, particularly when it comes to maintaining their mobility.

These can include low-impact walks, controlled play, scent games, and gentle swimming. All of these can help dogs maintain their mobility without straining their bodies.

Additional exercises that senior dogs can do to help improve their mobility include sit-to-stand exercises and gentle figure-8 walking, gentle weight shifting exercises, and a slow indoor walking circuit.

Before having a senior dog do any of these exercises, it’s a good idea to make sure that the dog can confidently maneuver through their exercise area.

If the dog slips or has to scramble for balance to complete the exercise, the experience can be very stressful for them.
