The Fire Changes Everything in Episode 3 of 'When Calls the Heart' (Exclusive Sneak Peek) K.L. After last week's fire destroyed Goldie National Park and the neighboring town of Benson Hills, Hope Valley opened its arms to all the evacuees looking for shelter and a hot meal. This week, the investigation begins into the cause of the fire even though Lee (Kavan Smith) already has a top suspect. The schol year is about to begin and Elizabeth (Erin Krakow) has her hands (and classroom) full as she not only welcomes her regular students but also the displaced students of Benson Hills as well.

What happened in last week's episode of When Calls the Heart?

In "Up in Smoke," last week's episode of When Calls the Heart, the citizens of Hope Valley faced one of their greatest challenges when a dangerous wildfire broke out in the newly opened Goldie National Park. As the fire spread perilously close to Hope Valley, Nathan (Kevin McGarry), Bil (Jack Wagner), Joseph (Viv Leacock), and Oliver (Jacob Shoemay) raced into the park in search of the kids. Meanwhile, Elizabeth (Krakow), Rosemary (Pascale Hutton), Lee (Smith), and Lucas (Chris McNally) spearhead relief efforts back in town.

Luckily for Hope Valley, the winds shifted and the fire moved away from the town. Unfortunately, the fired shifted its path toward the neighboring town of Benson Hills. Rosemary went on the radio to warn the residents of the town to prepare for the fire. She then went on to say Hope Valley would gladly offer them sanctuary if they needed it. Evacuees began to arrive by car and on foot and shelter was given.

Nathan returned with a young girl, Gwendolyn (Alex MacIsaac), whose father had not turned up. Nathan promised to look for him as he returned to Benson Hills to help with relief efforts. Mike (Ben Rosenbaum) and Mei (Amanda Wong), along with Henry (Martin Cummins), took the fire pump truck and headed there as well since Mike's family was from there.

Gwendolyn refused to leave the saloon until her father arrived to get her. Noticing that she seemed to take a shine to Goldie (Ellie Sweiss), Elizabeth came up with a solution. Rosemary asked Gwendolyn to help with babysitting Goldie but that would mean staying at their home. Gwendolyn agreed.

When Nathan and the others returned, he let Gwendolyn know they found her father but he was badly injured and at the hospital in Buxton but could not receive visitors for fear of infection, so she'd have to stay a little while longer with the Coulters.

Lee gathered Nathan, Lucas, and Bill for a meeting of the minds and let's him know his theory of who started the fire - A. J. McGinty (Kevin McNulty).

What can fans expect in the next episode of When Calls the Heart?

In "Back to School," this week's all new episode of When Calls the Heart, Elizabeth (Krakow) welcomes new faces into her classroom while Nathan (McGarry) and Bill (Wagner) launch an investigation into the wildfire that affected nearby Benson Hills. Despite an overpacked schedule, Lucas (McNally) promises to attend Edie's (Miranda McDougall) meeting to assist the evacuees, and Lee (Smith) accuses McGinty (McNulty) of starting the fire, leading to a heated disagreement. Meanwhile, Mike (Rosenbaum) and Mei (Amanda Wong) invite Maisie (Samantha Ferris) to move in with them, but they soon realize she may be more challenging than they expected.

When does When Calls the Heart season 13 episode 3 stream?

When Calls the Heart season 13 episode 3 "Back to School" premieres on Sunday, Jan. 18 at 8 p.m. ET on Hallmark Channel and will be available to stream the next day on Hallmark+.
