Washington— Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and Joint Chiefs Chairman Dan Caine are set to hold a news conference Sunday to give updates on President Trump's decision tostrike a trio of Iranian nuclear sites. Mr. Trump announced Saturday evening that the U.S. had launched strikes against Iraniannuclear sites at Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan. He said in anational address later Saturday nightthat the sites "have been completely and totally obliterated." Flanked by Hegseth, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President JD Vance at the White House, the president described the strikes as a "spectacular military success" and warned of "far greater" attacks if Iran does not "make peace." "If peace does not come quickly, we will go after those other targets with precision, speed and skill, most of them can be taken out in a matter of minutes," he said. "There's no military in the world that could have done what we did tonight, not even close. There has never been a military that could do what took place just a little while ago." Two senior Defense Department officials confirmed to CBS News that three American B-2 bombers were used to strike Fordo early Sunday local time, with each of those B-2s armed with 2 U.S.-produced"bunker-buster" bombsknown as the GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrators, or MOPs — bombs so heavy that they could only be dropped by a B-2. Fordo, the site of a high-grade uranium enrichment facilitythat international experts believe is key to Iran's nuclear program, is buried almost 300 feet beneath a mountain and was believed to be protected by significant air defenses. The MOP was seen as the best chance at destroying the Fordo facility. Hegseth and Caine will hold a press briefing about the strikes at 8 a.m. ET Sunday morning.
