"Dakota's doing well. The split wasn't exactly a shock," says the Johnson source, adding that the actress, 35, and Coldplay singer Martin, 48, "had the same issues for a while." Multiple sources confirmed to PEOPLE on June 4 that Johnson and Martin had broken up and ended theirnearly eight-year relationship. The pair were first romantically linked in 2017 and photographed together as recently as May 16, when they stepped out together in Malibu, California. "She wants to live her life very intentionally — she doesn't want to have any regrets," the source tells PEOPLE of Johnson. "She loves all her creative projects and is excited about her career. She believes there is more to life than work though. She wants a meaningful life on all levels." When breakup rumors surfaced in August 2024, arep for Johnson shut them downand said she and Martin remained "happily together." Around the same time, one insider told PEOPLE, "They've had issues and taken breaks in the past, but things are great now. They both love their careers. They arebalancing things the best they can." Martin was recently photographedstepping out with his son Moses, 19, in New York City on June 16. The singer and songwriter sharesMoses and daughter Apple, 21, with ex-wifeGwyneth Paltrow.
